As a society we established that white people cannot have braids like black people or cannot wear sombreros for 5 de Mayo because it's "cultural appropriation" or offensive. I mean, you could lose your job or get death threats over that. Some similar things go on with chinese and indian cultures.
So what about people from other backgrounds dressing up as a ridiculed version of an Irish person? Should that be considered cultural appropriation or offensive as well? Or should we stop calling people out for celebrating other cultures or taking items that other ethnicities wore first?

I think you're spending too much time with the crocodiles and not enough in Connemara. The entire existence of the Irish in America has been a prolonged refutation of the racist nonsense machine that spewed out the idea of "cultural appropriation" in the first place; there's no point in stopping now. A good idea is a good idea; insisting that it can only be done by the one who came up with it would make you some kind of ultra-hipster. Nobody wants that.

Cultural appropriation is a good thing. When a white guy puts on a Sombrero and does a hat dance on Cinco de mayo, as a Hispanic I think that's awesome. He's absorbing my culture and having a good time doing it. Thats how culture walls get brought down but also always different cultures to maintain thier individual identities. These asshole on the left preach the other way want the walls between culture's to stay up. While we all just melt into a bland , hive minded monoculture.
I feel like the main reason for people doing that is because they might get pinched if they don’t. If that wasn’t a factor, many less people would dress a certain way for St Patrick’s Day. I know that’s the only reason I wear green in that day…because ever since elementary school, I was taught that not wearing green could result in bodily harm.
I have Irish heritage and I don’t mind. I have Hawai’ian heritage and I don’t mind stereotypical “Hawai’i Day” at school. Cultural appropriation is hardly even a thing and it gets overhyped.
As a society, we did NOT establish anything. We simply have the MSM trying to tell us what to think and how to act, and me and others telling the MSM to go fuck their selves.
It's why I no longer celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It's just a bastardized holiday and a complete mockery. All these people going around pretending to be Irish when they have no clue about all the atrocities committed on our people, no clue about our history, no clue about our culture.

spot on. It's all about being offensive or not, and the debate is really about who gets to decide what is "offensive". When it comes to sexual harassment, they say if I tell a woman I like her makeup, then it's not offensive if she says it isn't, and it is offensive if she says it is.
I disagree that this can be applied 100%, both in harassment and in cultural appropriation. I get that say Native Americans have sacred rites and dress like the headdress that only is supposed to be worn by a person who earned it, but I think there is a middle ground. It's not cool to smear on some blackface and go mocking people, but it's also ridiculous to expect people not to wear braids, kimonos, kilts, or eat sushi or burritos because all those things belong to a certain race. Same as it's not cool to go grabbing women's bodies, but it's also silly to shame a man for trying to kindly compliment someone on their wardrobe or the effort they put into looking nice.
Those examples aren’t cultural appropriation. That’s just wearing a sombrero on a Hispanic holiday and wearing braids. Cultural appropriation would be like Victoria’s Secret models wearing a sacred Native American headdress on a runway for fashion. A white girl with braids because her hair was wet isn’t cultural appropriation.
I have no issues people celebrating other cultures. I personally just find it offensive British people want to celebrate other cultures then don't bat an eyelid when St George's Day comes around not even a holiday for our patron saint.

I am almost 100% Irish although my family came to the US over 100 years ago. Today an African American guy had on a hat celebrating St Patrick’s Day and green clothing. I complimented him on it. A couple of years ago I read something that just felt right, it said for all people to celebrate St Patrick’s day as we, the Irish, aren’t pussies.
i think the problem is when you make a mockery of it. there's still culture and history involved and people just use that as an excuse to get drunk and act and dress stupid.

That's the problem, you folks don't understand what you're celebrating on Saint Patrick's day. Irish and irish descendants wear green that day because it was the colour that represented free Ireland and to wear that colour over a hundred years ago was forbidden and would get you killed. It's not just a religious thing, it's a celebration of freedom, both politically and religiously. It's also a day for the people who's ancestors had to escape from Ireland from persecutions and the famine to connect with their roots.

But outside of America, we can be a whole lot of different ethnicities. When I get my DNA test completed, I might have some Irish DNA. Culture appropriation is expressing a cultural identification not your own, without the proper respect and without identifying it isn't your own. Cultural appreciation is different. Black people dressing up for saint patty's day isn't cultural appropriation. It's like an equivalant to a white guy listening to rap, but not going so far as to go out of his way to talk with a blaccent, wear braids, and incorporate black culture into his everyday life. It's not going too far.
