I don't have to "believe" in "pretty privilege", because it is already understood in behavioral psychology. The main psychological mechanism related to attraction is the halo effect, where individuals who are attractive get better treatment and more generally favored in most situations and the reverse is true for conventionally-unattractive persons--the only time where this isn't the case is in criminal proceedings, such as rape or murder trials. In these circumstances, a more attractive individual will typically be inherently less sympathetic because the jury believes that, since they get better treatment on the outside than an average or below-average person, the same will happen inside during their incarceration, and this realization will make that person's "superficial likability" come across as a "get out of trouble free" card. Therefore, a more attractive person will actually receive harsher penalties, almost like people are trying to "balance the cosmic scale of fairness" by using their looks against them.
The reality is that attractive people are just better received in general, because humans want to get the benefit of association by being within their domain of influence. It is rather unfair that people get judged so harshly for something they cannot control, but nature is a cruel and uncaring mistress.
Can we let go of this privilege thing already?
What can be an advantage in one place is a disadvantage in another. The pretty girl might get a ton of hate in a crowd of average looking females. She might even get bad attention among a bunch of lonely leering lecherous teens boys.
OK, we get it...
Pretty white women have a huge advantage.
But handsome, tall, somewhat intelligent, rich, white men have every advantage known to mankind. They're underachievers if they merely end up millionaires instead of billionaires. Shame on them all.
Definitely, I'm not a good looking girl so it's good when it comes to not being catcalled and assaulted (only once). It's bad though when it comes to finding partners and I fear I'm going to be alone and never marry because I'm not pretty enough. The perks pretty people get don't really bother me as much as the fear I won't find anyone normal because of my looks. I have a great personality since im kind and empathetic aswell as a good baker and artist and I help people with their problems but looks are so important for women and its scary. The boys at my school have high standards and I'm 136lbs and 5'2 so I don't have an ideal body and my face is meh. I just wish I looked pretty so I'd have more friends, get respect, and not fear being alone. (also people have been into me but all of them have either been extreme perverts who only want sex or extremely mentally unstable and sadistic)
It does exist, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a downside to it. Companies are more likely to hire them only because they’re pretty and not because of their accomplishments, which breeds contempt between them. They attract sex partners easily but nobody really wants to commit to them or marry them. Other women hate them for no reason, etc.
I’m not denying it exists, just saying it’s not always a benefit

To some extent, Yes. But any guy with enough self esteem or someone who doesn't necessarilly have an interest in that person, No. But a lot of people will fall for her and want her in a sexual way more then a deep relationship. Personally i wouldn't like her as a girlfriend under any circumstance.
If you are wondering about why someone steals all the cute guys or your jealous of her, Dont worry. Nearly all the guys who aren't "under her spell" have a heart who can hold themselves back
My answer is to: Its true, but not everyone falls for it.
Yes it happens a lot especially in jobs , , I remember my 1 job I was working at , they were hiring to fill a position and out of all the qualifying candidates that came in for the position , my boss at the time hired this attractive girl , and she was barely qualified but her looks got her in , so yes it is messed up but just the way it goes in most places, having attractive looks has its advantages , and most attractive people know that cuz they are so use to being treated that way , so you can’t really blame them considering we live in a dog eat dog world
Anyone who doesn't believe just hasn't been in a situation where a friend is regularly treated better than them for no obvious reason for extended periods of time. It so real its fucking disgusting. But it will never go away. If you have a high libido or just happen to be desperate you might give a pretty person the shirt off your back if the situation plays right. If you dont understand what I mean and normally just get stuff from people. You guessed it you are the person with pretty privilege. Dont feel bad it's not your fault just dont be a bad person.
100000% I was an ugly duckling in high school and I was always invisible. My friends would talk about how some new guy liked them every week. When we went out, they'd be approached and the guys wouldn't so much as look at me. Then I became pretty, I wore better clothes that covered most of my skin but showed my curves, wore less makeup, wore my hair in it's natural state and doing less improved my beauty more. People are kinder to me now, people compliment me and go out of their way to help me. This never happened before.
Ofcource, coz nowadays only partiality works. Nowadays funda is you will be chosen if you are beautiful or handsome and secondly you are being chosen if you know some one not if what you know. It's very deep knowledge which we need to understand and notice by our own eyes, till then no body can understand
It does to an extent. But it's wise to not lean on that but be strongly independent apart from that. All girls and guys can use their looks as a benefit but one should never place everything into that camp. Look at actresses and fashion models, they now own businesses or invest. It's good to be attractive but being smart and learning to be smarter than you are should be the goal for everyone. And everyone pretty or not has equal access to advantages you can work towards
There is no doubt, whatsoever, that pretty privilege exists. What amazes me is that "pretty" people still bitch that their beauty somehow a disadvantage. This shows fantastic cluelessness.
Having said this, most really hot women have some kind of deep personality disorder.
It does exist. Unfortunately, it makes people seem more valuable when attractive. There is also a theory that they tend to be more successful in careers because they are deemed approachable and entertaining to look at which equals more buisness.
It exists to a much smaller degree since #MeToo.
If you search the topic you will find that there is anecdotal evidence that good-looking women have had increasing difficulty finding work, because men are afraid of hiring them.
Fuglies and grandmothers are preferred to women who are seen as a #MeToo false allegation risk.
This is unfair, but women, as a collective, have brought this upon themselves.
I know it exists because a woman with a great looking body can just flash herself and get backstage tickets many times. A man could be waiting 3 hours for them and the woman in that scenario could have just arrived and she gets them. This has happened against me before. It is sad that many men allows women to behave this way. It is sadder that women would resort to this behavior just to try getting what she wants.
It's not really a matter of believing because it's been proven to be real. Attractive people are viewed as more trustworthy, better leaders, healthier, etc...
I hate to say this but this really is a subconscious thing. Even parents will favor their better looking child according to a few studies on the matter. As both a child and an adult I will receive favoritism which I recognized partly to do with my looks. People tend to be nicer/warmer towards above average individuals as well.
What can be odd is in dating when some women - in their own heads - feel looks wise they are beneath you. That can be awfully difficult to combat.
Yes and no. I've gotten things based on my looks before it NEVER ends well, yes it might get you somewhere but it'll be for the wrong reasons and you'll suffer in the long run.
It absolutely does exist. People are not 100% impartial. We'd have to be robots to be completely objective in everything.
Attractive people are favored in many ways, but they also have disadvantages. Some people don’t take them seriously.
Sort of. I don't think it will get you hired over a more qualified person, but people will be nicer to you... sometimes. Unless, of course, they're just asshole men who want to have casual sex with you.
What's there not to believe? Studies clearly show it exists. There's also pretty exclusion. So basically, pretty people are privileged in many regards, but at the same time are also disadvantaged in certain other regards.
Well no crap.
I mean there's a reason why ads and stuff on the media is filled with sexy people. Sex sells I mean it would be weird to feature ugly people.
I mean unless that ugly person is rich or has some sort of amazing story.
Absolutely.
I think it's one of the most beneficial privileges to have. If I could be reincarnated and could respec my next incarnation I would definitely make looks one of my higher stats.
I believe there are some advantages to being attractive, but normally, “pretty privilege” doesn’t exist. What you are describing is bias, that exists.
I'm sure some attractive people get some perks but not all pretty people are going to use that so called privilege.
Yes, but it can also be a detriment at times. Two of my workers are stunning, and certain clients (female) do not want them on their jobs because they get too much attention.
Boo hoo, lol.
Isn't this blindingly obvious? Of COURSE it's better to be attractive than not! I'll give you another little secret--it's better to be rich than broke? WHOOOOOOOAAAAAAA!!! Mind. BLOWN!
In other news, I thought the girl in the pic you used to illustrate was smoking hot when I just saw her face and hair. Then scrolled down a bit and good LORD she's even hotter! lol!
When it came to school and work most certainly.. It was interesting seeing the most attractive people get good marks in school for doing nothing, when i and everyone else had to work our asses off.
give me a fucking break. how do you know they did nothing? you were there every time they worked on an assignment or studied for an exam? stop bitching about how hard you have it, and work harder. life's not easy for anyone, even if you think it is. "did nothing" my ass. maybe they were just smarter than you and worked harder than you.
@DianaWest Fuck off.
@DianaWest you know what, i will reply to you in a better manor.. I know they didn't work as hard because i saw the work they turned in.. I was a teachers aid.. The vast majority of the work they turned in was at best worthy of a 6th grader not a college student or a high school student. Do your self a favor you judgmental piece of human garbage, Maybe ask the question "why do you think that" rather than assuming. Because assuming just makes you look stupid. Incredibly stupid.
Aw she blocked me.. i guess she can't take her own medicine.. how cute..
Oh definitely. I'm sure there are some drawbacks too, but I think that advantages outweigh those.
It's certainly a thing. But don't think too much about it.
It does but pretty doesn't do anything positive for the world.
Or what is known as the 'Halo effect'. There also have been studies showing that when people talk on the phone and sound more friendly, they are imagined to be more pretty. That is because prettier people are thought/expected and do have 'better' social skills on average.
It’s a scientific fact. There are many researches about this topic.
It is absolutely a thing. People are nicer to better looking people. It isn’t fair, but it is true.
Keep in mind that there are also hazards of being seen as physically attractive. Especially for women.
Yes, it’s been proven good looking people are treated in better ways
Perks of being attractive are endless, this one is a small part of it.
I'm not sure. I do know that boys like me more though.
Yes absolutely my sister goes through life so easily because she's attractive
They do. As I’ve gotten fatter, I’ve noticed that women don’t laugh at my jokes as hard anymore. Damn sluts only used me for my body before.
Exactly. You get it.
Maybe you should send me nudes
No. I don’t like fat chicks.
i keep hearing about these whores who use their looks to get what they want. maybe I should too, so I can take advantage of this "pretty privilege."
Yep... got a coworker who tends to break rules and do stupid shit but because she is foreign and gorgeous she often gets away with a lot.
Yes it does, I don't know why we try to fool ourselves and indoctrinate kids into thinking that it doesn't exist. LOOKS DO MATTER!! That's a fact.
Agree with it or not, it exists. It’s been proven. Is it right? I don’t think so... but it definitely true.
I am living proof that Pretty Privilege is alive and well and is just a fabulous way to go through life! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I believe there some Advantages. But also disadvantages don’t know who’s real meaning if they like you for you or just your looks. Some are fake nice.
Yea but there are disadvantages when girls get aggressive towards you or guys just want to score with you.
Of course. But in the long wrong smarts will always win.
It’s a choice. Something that you can allow to exist in you.
Its not privilege if you earn it. Nobody is born attractive. They make themselves attractive by taking decent care of themselves.
Work out, eat healthy and sleep regularly, and you too can have "pretty privilege".
Of course yes. Can have disavanges too, but of course attractive people will have advantages
Yes. Pretty privilege, or the attractiveness bias, is a statistically proven phenomenon.
absolutely I have hired people purely on pretty privilege
Dunno what you mean by "believe in"-- it exists. Whether I believe it or not has nothing to do with the objective reality that it does.
Maybe not significant advantages but they do have some advantages.
It definitely exists for women. It seems to exist for men too, but to a lesser extent.
In some people's minds. Like models , film stars. But beauty it self no...
The only difference is that unattractive women still are able to find love... women treat average (or worse) men like trash.
In spite of the agreed-upon lies they tell
No I don't believe in any privilege at all
Yes ofcourse but everything has pros and cons
I've tested it out, and yeah it's a thing
From personal experience, I'd say yeah. Totally.
I do, because I treat hot girls better than ugly girls
One would need to be blind to not notice this.
Of course it exists, and it's normal.
I'm happy to see that most people notice it.
