Why do girls wear makeup?

I am debating with a friend and she says it is not to improve looks and I disagree

There's so many reasons.

For me, it's a fun thing to do. I enjoy drawing and painting, and make up is like painting but on my face. XD

When I'm wearing make up for a formal event or a business meeting, it feels almost like putting on "warpaint" or armour.

I'm donning something to alter my appearance towards a specific goal, but the improvement isn't as much about the physical as it is about me feeling more confident and assertive in my skin.

When I wear make up that makes me more professional or striking, it frees up some of my need to "command" at a meeting and I can dedicate that energy to watching and assessing my clients instead.

It is to improve looks but the reasoning behind it depends on the girl. Maybe she is a bit insecure and wears makeup to hide them, maybe it’s to boost their confidence because makeup makes them feel powerful, or maybe they are an artist and like to show their skills through makeup, etc.

To some extent, yes, it is to improve looks. Make-up can make someone look better, especially if it is done tastefully.

It is important to note though that it is the wearer who decides how much make-up they wear, not the people who are attracted to them. Almost all the women I know underestimate how naturally attractive they are (now I think about it, so do most men). This is why you get some women wearing far too much.

But even then, it's not just about appearance. It's also about the fun of putting it on.

From what I've heard it is to look good or better, or to hide imperfections. Make up can do a lot with how people see you so I'd say that there are other less populair reasons. There is also the whole thing about needing to look perfect in todays society so a lot might choose make up because they want to follow the rest and/or want to hide their insecurities.

Some paint to be approved
Some paint just because they want to
Some paint to get famouse
Some paint as a hobby

So some put on makeup to look good for themself
Some put on makeup to look good for someone they like
Some put on makeup for no reason at all
Some put on makeup to get cuter pictures
Some put on makeup to match witg their outfits
Some put on makeup because they have a dream of working ad makeup artist or to sell great quality makeup

So why doea guys wear makeup? I bet they too have diffrent reasons, right?

Because its what the media and Hollywood tells us makes us more desirable and stand out more to men. I agree with you though, and I really don't wear makeup that often. When I do, it really isn't that much. Beauty standards say women should have high contrast in their faces. The eyes should pop, lips should stand out from the rest of the face, and cheeks should be defined and slightly flushed. Most women don't have this appearance on their own without makeup. Even men who don't like the heavy makeup look will find women with these natural contrasts more attractive than one with more plain and blended colors in their face naturally. A lot of women you think aren't wearing makeup actually are to create a natural look of contrast. Those women often get asked if they're sick or tired when they truly go completely natural without makeup. So even for those who don't like or wear the heavy makeup look wear some because there's so much pressure to do so.

Honestly I rarely put anything on. I feel fine in my own body. From time to time though I do like to dress up for myself. Nice clothes, some accessories, bit of makeup. It definitely makes me feel pretty when I do but I wouldn't say I'm hiding anything. Just a confidence boost from time to time. Every one is different thought. I dont know how someone who puts on makeup daily feels. I experiment maybe once every few months usually for an event. Dressing up in general definitely is an "improved look".

I started wearing makeup in 6th grade because I have bigger eyes but no eyelashes so I looked Amish as a kid and I wore eyeliner to school one day and I’ll never forget, literally 5 kids at different times told me they thought I was pretty. And then one day I didn’t wear makeup at all and this one girl said “ew yeah get your eyeliner back on girl” she didn’t mean it in a mean way, I laughed. But it stuck with me because mascara and eyeliner covers up my eyes cause without it, My eyes look like the desert lol. But that’s just my experience. I think MOST girls do it not because it makes them look better but because it’s almost considered “non-feminine” to not wear makeup cause it looks like she’s “not trying”. That, or they do it for the art of it much like painting or drawing.

it is to improve looks. Just because some don't know how to properly make use of that doesn't mean it's not for the purpose, even if some end up worse.. TRUST that with the perfect amount of makeup, all girls can upgrade even the ugliest girls, and even the ones that don't really need it.. just the right amount will alway make you look better even if it's the type you can't tell at all.. that's usually the best most successful way to use it.

you're probably just thinking of the caked on makeup girls wear and looks overdone and on most tends to look clownish or even ugly.

makeup that looks like your'e not wearing any at all, is still makeup and will always improve anybody's appearance. The problem is, many girls like to overdo it, and some gay men do as well, with the fake lashes and all the contrasting and highlighting xD it's ugly.

Hmmm can be :) I use makeup sometimes to make my features look better or if I’m just feeling good so yeah it is used to improve looks. Some though use it as art like glam/heavy makeup looks or aesthetic type makeup is the new thing but it’s smth someone wouldn’t wear on a basis just for entertainment

Because we get told we’re not enough unless we’re wearing a decent amount of make up.. or we get shamed for not having perfect skin.. which we deal with by putting make up on.
Men thinking we wear none when we actually got some on, not much but just enough to hide our imperfections and enhance our features justifies that.

It’s to improve looks. However, some girls/women do it to look more put together or girly. A special occasion is a decent reason as well. Once you start wearing it to go grocery shopping or to work it’s definitely to improve your looks.

For me it’s definitely about looking better/ looking sexier. I never leave my house without a full face of makeup. Fake lashes, eye shadow, eye liner, blush and bright pink or ready lipstick. It’s all about looking good/sexy!
