There are various reasons why women wear cosmetic makeup products: as a means of expressing their personality, subtly enhancing their features, boosting their own self-confidence (through a daily self-care routine). Others see might makeup as a creative outlet, or form artistic expression. Makeup can be an art form, as it requires talent, serious skills, as well as a wide variety of techniques similar to those employed by painters, which can completely transform a face... Lastly, unfortunately some women use makeup, because they've been made to feel insecure for their natural features, having been convinced by contemporary media, marketing campaigns and beauty standards that they need it to look at least presentable/halfway decent. The reasons are complex and depend on the individual.. Historically, in some cultures in the pastiche, such as ancient Egypt, both men and women wore it for religious or health reasons (I had read somewhere blue eyeshadow was thought to protect the eyes from the sun rays, insects and the sand, as it contained ingredients with antimicrobial properties). Certainly most of the time they aren't doing it to attract male attention, despite what many male comments on here seem to suggest 🙄

To feel prettier. To cover up blemishes and enhance their best features. Some do it out of habit as they have grown up seeing women in their family put makeup so they do it as well as feel they look more presentable with makeup.

Nature. Women are designed by nature to attract men visually as is the case in many other species where one gender is designed to visually attract the other.

Men are much more visual when it comes to finding the opposite gender attractive than women.

So women are naturally designed to want to adorn themselves with things that increase their visual appeal. That's why the vast majority of the dollars spent in the clothing industry, the cosmetic surgery industry, the jewelry industry, the hair and skin care industry and related industries is spent by women.

Some have low self esteem and think this will make them look cooler/more elegant. Some think it's "a fashion statement" or "expression of their personality" so you'll see excessive color and glitter and such. Some are trying to cover major blemishes or scars. Some are just trying to get attention. Personally I rarely use makeup other than a touch of gloss, perhaps some mascara. I don't need more and never have. I focus on a better skin regimen and healthy diet to prevent things like sun damage.

For fun? For the outfit? Or the vibe? Or to cover the acne (not a good choice though). Depends on the person and the situation. In some cultures and circumstances men can wear make-up too.

I think they do it because people often believe that looks are more important for a woman. Studies show that men associate traits like annoyingness with women they find unattractive. So it’s more beneficial to be conventionally attractive.
