How come Koreans in real life don't look like Korean celebrities?

If you look up Korean celebrities online, you'll find people (men and women) with big eyes, thin noses, and for women, v-line faces. Well, I grew up in an American city with a large Korean population. It's like Little Korea, so I went to school with many Korean classmates, and almost none of them look like your average K-pop star. Like, their eyes weren't big with double eyelids. Most of them had single eyelids and wide face shapes.

Most people in real life don't look like fake and glammed up celebrities. So that's just common sense.

HOWEVER, I will say that overall, Seoul is pretty fake and "glamorous." Especially Gangnam. I live here in South Korea. I was just in Gangnam yesterday. (Went to Burgers Almighty; an American burger restaurant. DAMN good burger there!) I legit, kid you not, saw at least ten Korean women who were 5'10"/178 cm or taller. One girl was 6'2" and in flat sneakers. She had hair that went down to her butt.

But the one that stood out was this six foot tall woman I saw in Gangnam underground. She LEGIT looked like a model. A literal model. Probably the first 9 out of 10 woman I saw in South Korea. I was stunned because she looked too beautiful and perfect to be real. And like I said, in low heels, she was six feet tall, so probably 5'10.5" or 5'11" without heels. She had to be in her mid 20s. Her face was a legit 9 (and I don't say "10" cause no one is a ten but it was pretty flawless.) She was wearing a peach colored skirt and shoulder-less top.

I didn't say anything to her cause it was pretty hot yesterday and I was sweating down to my shirt and looked like sh*t. She was all alone, though. If I looked more presentable, I was flirted with her and used maximum charm and humor. (Most Koreans in Seoul know English.)

This is how her body looked, but this girl is UGLY compared to the one I saw yesterday.

I Googled Korean models and none of them were as beautiful as her. These girls are 7s. The girl I saw was a 9 or 9.5.

But still, a six foot tall flawless looking Korean model... I've never seen that in person before. She had to been rich. Probably a millionaire. Keep in mind, there were also nine other 5'10"+ tall women I saw in the few hours I was in Seoul, including the 6'2"/188 cm girl. (Yes, I kept count. Yes, being short annoys me THAT much!)

So yeah. While MOST celebrities are fake, so real women in Seoul actually look that good.

Anyway, you probably grew up in Los Angeles. But the TL;DR is: Plastic surgery. It's a bigger market in South Korea than it even is in LA. See for yourself.

Even normal people get cosmetic surgery in Seoul. I have! Nothing major though; just some skin clearing. In fact, that's why I was in Gangnam yesterday. I've gotten my third skin treatment there. $3,000 total so far, but it's worth it.

This is just speculation, but perhaps she was a model? I assume in a large city like Seoul, you're bound to run into actual famous models on the street, the same thing in Paris or London.

Yeah, she more than likely was. But this was just a random Saturday afternoon and she was dolled up to the nines. She wouldn't have been going to a photoshoot or anything that day; she just went out to do some shopping looking like that.

Because those are celebrities, it's like comparing Kim Kardashians to a local high school. Of course you're not going to find a lot of people that look like her. Monolids are very common in Asia, and in fact, some of the Korean celebrities you are talking about probably had double eyelid surgery or are using double eyelid glue.

I can tell you that I knew a lot of girls from school who resembled celebrities, but without the makeup. Take a young Katy Perry for example. Already, I can remember a girl in high school who looked like this, but brunette and younger. This didn't happen with my Korean classmates and K-pop stars, though.

I live in Little Korea, so I encounter many Koreans day-to-day, at Korean restaurants and supermarkets. I specifically mention my classmates, as those are the ones who I interact with the most -- in school.
