I (28f) got my husband (30m) some ties to choose from for an event we're going to where people will be dressed up & he admitted to me he doesn't know how to tie a tie. Well, I used to work at a restaurant where we had to wear ties, so I tied them all for him & then loosened them so all he has to do is slip it around his neck.
So now I'm wondering how many people know how to tie a tie. Doesn't matter who taught you, whether it was family, friends, stranger, YouTube or wherever else.
I think I know how to tie a tie but I don't think I've ever worn one more than 2 or 3 times. I only owned two. One was a black leather skinny tie from the punk/new wave era and the other was a white silk (or satin) with a keyboard printed on it.
I remember them teaching us one evening at a Boy Scout meeting.
But, can you make a tie-dye tie? I can teach you how to make a tie-dye tie!
First, you get the tie that you want to tie-dye, then you get the dye you want to use on the tie-dye tie. Then you tie the tie-dye tie and dip the tie-dye tie into the tie-dye dye. After a while, you take the tie-dye tie out of the tie-dye dye and dip the tie-dye tie into another tie-dye dye! When it's done, you've got a tie-dyed tie!
You can also tie-dye a tu-tu!! First, you take the tu-tu you want to tie-dye and tie the tu-tu and then dip the tied tu-tu you want to tie-dye into the tie-dye dye. Then, you take the tie-dyed tu-tu from the tie-dye dye and dip it into another tie-dye dye. Now, you've got a tie-dyed tu-tu! Next, you can get another tu-tu that you want to tie-dye but tear this tie-dye tu-tu in two! Now, you've got two tu-tu's to tie dye!
Yep. When I was a kid all boys learned to tie a tie. The knots are easy to tie and easy to remember. Getting the length right takes a bit of practice though. The style changes over time. Skinny ties, fat ties, tight knots, loose knots, buttoned collars, etc
But if you are talking bow ties, nope, I never learned. Never had any reason to wear a bow tie except as a six year old kid going to church - all kids went to church then and wore their Sunday clothes, which included a tie.

Yes. I wanted to learn years ago. I like learning random things that may someday come in handy. I asked my dad to teach me, and he did. I've since helped at weddings, with my nephews, and even with myself. I also learned to tie bow nots that are the pretty kind for dresses, and not the way they look droopy and lifeless. It has helped a ton with necktie dresses and bows on backs or fronts of dresses for them to look like the do in fashion magazines.
I do, but I never wear one and I don't know anyone who does.

I dress up nice all the time just for the Hell of it. I like wearing vintage styles (1920s, 1940s, 1950s) so I learned how to wear bow ties and traditional ties. I can do several knots but the Four In Hand is my favourite.
When I was younger my father tied the ties for me whenver I had to dress up for an event. Then I taught myself how to do it when I switched to my vintage style in my early 20s.
I can also do several pocket square folds.
A half-Windsor knot is no problem. I can do a full Windsor if needed, but not from memory, I have to do it along with a YouTube video, lmao. I really only have one shirt with a collar that requires a full Windsor though, and I’m not really walking around a super fashionable area, lmao, so I doubt people would even notice or know to use that specific knot in that situation, so I pretty much wear a half-Windsor 99% of the time. Haven’t needed to dress up much the last few years, but I did a lot of the time at my last job.
u I have worn suits with ties for more than 40 years. I can do it in my sleep.
Clip on ties are for little boys. A man should know how to dress like a gentleman, even if he is not required to dress thata way very often.

I can, but only really an easy kind of knot. I think it might be called four-in-hand or something. Other knots are way too complicated for my brain.
I never learned how to tie a tie. In Boy Scouts there were 12 knots and you had tonpick ten so I decided to forgo the necktie and learn the sheepshead instead..

I don't wear a tie often, so it might take me an attempt or two to get everything the right length but I do know how to tie it.
Both boys and girls had to wear one at our school (aged 11 to 16(, so learnt how to tie one then.
Very long ago I learned how to tie a tie, and although I only had to wear them now and then, I never forgot how to procede.

I can tie a Windsor knot but I don't have a clue how to tie a bow tie, always used a clip-on bow tie when applicable.
Super easy to tie a tie. Over under over up through the opening down the hole tighten until comfortable
Several types actually. Learned around 9-10. I've taught countless male students how to do it too. It's simply something you MYST know how to do to keep your man card.
I grew up wearing ties. My knot of choice is always the Windsor Knot!

Yes for most knots, still have a hard time tying a Bow Tie when wearing a tuxedo
I generally don't. I also typically don't go to black tie events, so, I never really got the hang of it.
I don't have the money to go to black tie events
