Maybe it is cause I am poor but I would not replace something that is still perfectly good and works.
Sadly, I often wear mine until they get holes in them as even when they get holes I might not be able to afford new ones.
It’s fine as long as they get washed every time you wear them. I habe underwear that’s older than 6 years…. Lol
If they're not stained or threadbare and the elastic hasn't given up there's no need to toss them out.

You replace underwear when it gets holes. Otherwise they are clean when you wash them.
I never heard of a 6 month rule. I throw mine away when they are worn out, not before.
