The modern contact lens was invented by a German ophthalmologist named Adolf Fick in the late 19th century. Fick's invention marked a significant advancement in the field of optics and vision correction, as it provided a more comfortable and convenient alternative to traditional eyeglasses.
Fick's original design consisted of a glass lens that was fitted directly onto the cornea of the eye. Over the years, advances in materials and manufacturing techniques have led to the development of soft contact lenses made of flexible plastic materials that conform to the shape of the eye.
Today, contact lenses are widely used for both corrective and cosmetic purposes, and they come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and materials to suit the needs of different users. They continue to be an important tool in the field of optometry, helping millions of people improve their vision and enhance their quality of life.
Google it and you will find it more than one guy who tried that before we got the modern ones. So it really depends on what we define as contact lenses. I mean the early made of glass isn't something you would want to use.
The "lens doctor"... contact lenses are another word for glasses so you are back to 1880s discovery time period.
