Do you ever think how much the outfit you're wearing costs?

Meghan Markle, just out for some errands, was recently seen wearing an outfit worth about $5000. It included a $1,625 camel-colored Max Mara Raspoli coat, $1,225 cashmere Hermès Rayures D’Ete shawl, $1,150 Chanel slingbacks, $1,650 Goyard tote bag, and $450 Givenchy belt.

We're not talking about a night out on the town!

My usual outfit consists of $60 jeans, $50 shirt, $80 sneakers and $150 Fitbit watch, total about $350. If I get a little more dressed up, it's $100 pants, $80 dress shirt, $120 leather shirt and my Fitbit, total about $450.

What about your typical run-around-town-on-errands outfit? What is it worth?

Yes, lmao…. but kind of a different spin. I like high quality stuff at clearance prices. I’m fortunate that, at least for a couple things like shoes and sometimes shirts, I have less common dimensions. I’m a size 13 shoe, and for button-down shirts, I have a 36/37 sleeve and can wear a Large-Tall if I’m tucking in, so I can find some diamonds in the clearance rack.

So I enjoy totaling the cost of what my outfit WOULD cost, and what my outfit DID cost, after discount. Paying full price is for suckers, lmao. Only thing I would pay through the nose for are certain sneakers, just because you can’t really find them at deep discounts because they’re longtime fashion staples, like Chuck Taylors, for example, I can’t find those for less than like $5 off unless they’re a goofy color.

But I have Italian dress shoes that originally retailed at like $350 that I got for like $50. $400 sportcoats I paid $120 for at a Macy’s “Doorbuster” ale. Via online shopping, I cleaned up on dress shirts from Men’s Wearhouse, like $15 because they were Big & Tall clearance, originally around $100.

So I love getting gussied up, then marveling at my $1,500 outfit I paid $400 for, and getting compliments on my fit even from random strangers on the street.

Then, with all the money I’ve saved, if I do come across something I absolutely have to have, I can buy it without much regret, knowing that most of the rest of my wardrobe was purchased at a deep discount👍

I could also get into club wear etc that stuff gets pricey especially when talking about expensive fabrics and custom cloathing (gothic stuff, I mean my knee high boots are probably $500.00 or so and that doesn't include coats etc. I own an unbreakable umbrella that set us back a few hundred. My main brogues are steel toed safety shoes from when I was part of the leadership team of a factory they're good looking and were pricey (ordered from London). And a lot of my clothes were gifts or in the case of my brogues and doc Martens paid for by an employer. My next outfit that I am looking at is full white tie ensemble, that will not be cheap either. Several thousand, of course my pumps (mens pumps are very clean looking dress shoes without any visible stitching and often with silk ribbon lacing)

Like shoes are usually the most expensive thing I wear. On a usual day they’d be about £200 ish but if it is a party then between £600-£800. I don’t keep a lot of shoes because I am a minimalist so I just go for quality and make sure I have less than ten pairs in neutral colours for different needs. Black, nude and white goes with everything!

I mostly wear dresses and that means I just have one piece of clothing on. The price can range from £45-£250 on a normal day depending what dress I wear and for parties it would generally be above £100 but I never go over £1K - I can save spending thousands on a dress for my wedding.

In the winter I wear a coat and I only keep three which cost around £300 each. They’re long and versatile and have wool and cashmere materials so they last many years and keep me warm as well as looking feminine. I have two jackets that I never wear because I don’t like to wear jeans so they’re just sitting in my wardrobe. They were both gifts so I keep them as a memory.

That’s about it! Since I started practicing minimalism I have been able to save a lot financially and also declutter my space of unnecessary things. I also used to purchase a lot of designer fragrances which became an expensive addiction. Now I just stick to two which I layer and which I think goes with my aura. It’s just become associated with me now.

What matters to me is whether the clothing is from a sweatshop/ethical.

I'm a total believer of not spending money on daily clothing unless it's a special occasion or formal dress needed.

Shein is my go to, it has its hiccups but anything under $20 is good enough for me. It all depends how you wear it and how you can make it look. Clothing does not have to be name brand.

I wish the well known would support this, have their designers literally go the cheapest route non name brand and come up with great looking outfits the exact same way the name brand would do it. Just to make a point.

no i'mbroke... but godh i wanna keep buyinh stuff at the mall because i have a thing for fashion the products i wanna but are cheap but still i can't. i'm big so it's actually extremely hatd for me to pick clothes yet i still
wanna look nice. it's really different when it is your passion because even if it's hard you get pissed but you stil keep goinh and still excited. i'm not also a fashion expert but since this fall into beauty it is part of my interest. and tbh it's giving me massive headache and you know i realkt wanna scream like a fan at thise fashion designers in praise for their talent 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 they are awesome!

Everyday type clothes I’ll wear shorts/overalls and a body suit or tee which may cost about $30. My everyday shoes I got in kids section for like $60. My everyday bag was $1500 after tax, but not including it $90 only because of my shoes.
My fall/winter wardrobe only cost a bit more because of jackets, boots, sweaters, layers.

I don’t really care much about clothing and their brands. Of course there are bits and pieces of clothing I prefer branded based on their performance. For example all my leggings or sport gear are either lululemon or under armour and that’s simply because they stay put. In terms of pricing, I don’t really pay too much attention. I’m sure whatever I bought is 110% from its costs value to produce.

I’m not sure of the costs, because I usually mix it up a bit. Like say if I wear an expensive pair of jeans, I may pair it with a cheap tshirt and jewellery- I also like to make my own jewellery out of bits of silver and gold so they can range from cheap 5 cent pieces to pieces of real gold, which are quite a lot. I’d say I wear a mix of cheap and expensive things at the same time.

Just put on my better jeans yesterday that cost too much, and then I got word that the hose testing company was not doing well so back to the station for 4 hours of fun filled BS, rolling & loading hose that they were supposed to do, and now they are back in the wash.

I don’t buy expensive. It’s better to thrift. However, it’s not the price tag that concerns me. It’s the cost the environment and the cost of the hands that made it (e. g. child labor, adults taken advantage of by being paid absolute minimum or less than livable wages). If any of these factors are true. The cost was unfortunately too high.
