Why are people so against gate keeping clothes?

I've not really heard of it, but if I understand correctly, it means you want to be special and the only one wearing your outfit (s) or style. To the point that your are aggressively attacking/criticizing other people for wearing the same thing (s) you are wearing.
Reminds me of kindergarten where children would say "you're a copy cat" as an insult to other children who were doing something similar or outright mimicking them.
Considering humans are evolved primates and our basic society and nature is largely based on mimicking each other and learning behaviors from each other, this seems like a ridiculous stance to take. Childish (immature) behavior, as noted above. If it's not clear, humans take social cues from each other and even ostracize others for behaving too differently. This is at the core of issues we have like homophobia and hate groups that target minorities. It's a case of "be like us, or we will persecute you.".
Take the photo above for example. If one of these boys dressed like this alone in a school where all the other boys wore pants, the likelihood of being mocked and bullied rises dramatically. But because they are homogenous, they have camaraderie.
So, to answer your question, I'm not on a crusade against gatekeeping clothes. Frankly it hasn't even hit my radar. But it seems silly, immature, and against the basic principles of human nature (to share and be like each other).
It's just really annoying to listen to. Especially when the clothes they're gatekeeping aren't particularly nice or unique. If you really have that unique of a look, everyone else will know that they saw you doing it first so the copying won't matter anyway.
If you're onto a good thing; let other people enjoy it because it's not like your fashion sense is some trade secret that you're making money on. If you're a trendsetter by nature, you'll have other ideas in the future.
That's fine, she's allowed to not want anyone to copy her.
But unless she's designing and producing all her clothes herself, thereby making them unique, she has no right to demand others NOT dress like her.
If you're buying off the rack clothes, you're bound to see someone else wearing something similar once in a while.
You're not going to control what other people wear.
Of course she's not making sense, the Asker doesn't have a real question.
actually i think it's harder to "gate keep" clothes because literally it's only a google search away and there's so many apps that can find that clothing or something extremely similar.

Never heard of someone wanting their sense of fashion not to trend
Girls don't really do much of this "Gatekeeping" you're talking about then.
Literally every single day I see girls wearing the same cookie cutter outfits. Same ripped jean shorts, same plain crop tops, same black yoga pants. No individuality to be found.
@Wraith_Cemetery. Truth. Women are trend followers by nature.
If it is your own line, by all means. Make kt super exclusive. Otherwise? What entitles you to it above others? Even if the clothes had more significance to you than people or a different background, why would you feeling offended be more important than the person with a similar background feeling flattered?
Basically, because its a silly entitled notion and as a principle you'd likely be outraged if people did the same to you.
What are gate keeping clothes?
Is this the sort of thing you mean? The hat looks a bit much.
Most people are wearing mass produced shite that all looks alike not anything they created on their loom. Outside of copyright and trademark violations there's no gate to keep.
Not sure what gate keeping clothes is or how it could be done. Is there actually a costume that a girl could devise that hasn't been done before?
If white people invented pants, does that mean black and oriental people shouldn't be allowed to wear pants?
I hear "Culture vulture!" every time I put on shoes.
I don't think it's bad considering how many other clothes people can buy.
People gonna copy you no matter what you do. Not really possible to gatekeep clothes, at least not for very long.
I Googled "gate keeping clothes" and still can't figure out what they are. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Looking at the other comments here I found this possible definition. If this is correct than it's not very hard to see why some people might find it annoying:
"I've not really heard of it, but if I understand correctly, it means you want to be special and the only one wearing your outfit (s) or style. To the point that your are aggressively attacking/criticizing other people for wearing the same thing (s) you are wearing."
Myself I couldn't care less. Where what you want.
xD if you don't wanna be copied, make your own clothes. whatever can be bought is not individual.
never had any interest in fashion.
worn the same outfit year round for 30 odd years -updated with new version if it becomes worn.
And I've done well having dedicated no more than 3 minutes of my life thinking about it
Nothing is bad about not wanting to be copied. Even so, there is nothing you can do to stop others from copying you.
I don't know. It's personally annoying when I try to put together something unique and someone copies me, making me look like I'm wearing a damn uniform
The hell are you talking about? Like, who is this directed to?
no idea. it's stupid, especially as a lolita
Oh you can very well not want it, but people can very well tell you to get fucked.
I have no idea what we are talking about.
can't sue people for wearing the same thing
Never heard of it 😂😂😂
