One of the things I find the most attractive and beautiful about a woman is her modesty and elegant choice in clothing (like the picture). "sexy" or "hot" are only shallow terms for me that have nothing to do with beauty, only meaningless visual appeal, they do serve my instinctive side, but not my logical one.
I rarely see that anymore, and I see revealing clothes so much more encouraged and loved by everyone while modest clothing is so unpopular, ignored, and rarely talked about, sometimes it's even shunned as boring and irrelevant.
So why is it unpopular? Is it dying? Becoming kind of a thing of the past? Because if so, then that makes me pretty sad. What are your thoughts?
Because modesty has a bad reputation, it is seen as being ashamed of your body or considering it sinful, blah blah. Media is promoting all this fast fashion skimpy stuff with cheap quality frumpy fabric and making trends out of them to make more money.
Andit's actually hard to be modest in the recent days. I had a guy cheat on me because apparently because I wasn't showing him my body and that wasn't satisfying him (I warned him BEFORE the relationship that he will have to deal with it, he is the one who said he is fine with it), and when I see all these 'gym progress' images on Instagram sometimes I have the urge to post them myself because I also work hard to stay in shape and develop a good squat booty and it's paying off! And then I have to tell myself 'dont do this girl no no no you will regret it'... But the pressure is real with everyone around you doing it. I only send such kinda pictures to my girl friends once in a blue moon, and nothing more.
It's nice to have guys around you who still appreciate modesty. I believe you guys have become very rare. A lot of men claim to appreciate modesty, but what they really like is the idea of a woman who won't be drawing attention of other men with her body if she is with him, and otherwise they really don't care. Modesty is so much more than just that.
And it's not about whether or not I have the right to show my body to the public. It's about whether or not PEOPLE have the right to look at MY body. Human bodies are really private, I don't just wanna be touched by random people, and I also don't want my body parts to be seen by other people. It's not anything to 'hide', everyone knows what a female body is composed of. It's not like I have three tits that I have to put them up for show.
Girls feel that if they wear modest conservative clothes that they won't get noticed... Funny story... an old Iraqi man migrated to my country and on the second day after his arrival, he said to me, do you know what is missing in this country. I said what? He replied... 'fabric'

your user name suggests that maybe what you are seeing is more of a cultural shift between syria and the west as less modest clothing has been the norm since at least the 1960s here. that said though i personally think more modest clothing can look very classy so im not sure that what you say is correct anyway
No I know all about the western history with that stuff, I'm asking this because even in Syria, modest clothing is decreasing, you see many females giving up Hijab and starting to wear less, wearing tighter clothes as well to show the body more.
I just wanna know the philosophy behind all of it, ya know? What keeps modesty alive? And why is it globally slowly dying?
i can imagine in syria its more an expression of exhibiting new found freedomes and ofcourse it will seem like a total change to the past... im sure it will level out again as normality and peace break out
I think this depends of the country as well. Here in Finland modest clothes are majority and for a reason: when it gets -30F you just seriously have no other option than to cover yourself well or you will literally freeze. Of course then during summertime the is more variety.
I personally love modest clothing, not just because of the climate but I love the elegant and classy look overall. I have the mindset that it's more sexier to keep some things hidden than to show everything. Too revealing clothes make me really uncomfortable to be.
I think the dress in the picture is quite elegant.
Personally, I try to dress in a tasteful way, not showing an excess of skin or cleavage. I do like to show some leg. Most of my skirts and dresses are just above the knee length. I'm tall with long legs, so that's not showing much !!!
I find modesty to be classy and elegant too and I like them, I dress like that so for me is not unpopular... I mostly see actually people dressed modest around but maybe because it's winter and it's cold 😅
A woman dressed like a skank will never be described as "elegant". Ladies, elegance is probably the single most attractive trait of a woman. Whether men realize it or not, men will sacrifice their lives and will never cheat on a genuinely elegant woman. Elegance is truly a lost trait these days.
I mean, clothes are all about fashion and it has been up until recently. Now people adopt different personal styles and in my opinion "modest" clothes if we are talking about covering up are coming back in, just not in the same way. If you seen a girl in an over sized top and mom Jean's 10 years ago she would have been looked at like a weirdo, but now it's the norm. Things change over time...
Maybe men should start our own version of "cleavage", wearing pants that cut down low in front exposing everything but the tip of our c0cks, and we can get really angry at any female who dares look. We could take all kinds of "man cleavage" photos and post them online to see how many likes we can get. We can also learn to strut around so that our junk spills out when we want it so, of course, we will deny all of this and say "we dress to make ourselves feel good about ourselves".
I man if you want to go for it. But the funny thing is all these clothes that you seem to dislike were brought into fashion by male designers 😂. Men love to objectify and sexualize women, so the thing that your upset about was initially caused by men.

Who have been viewed lesser by many societies just because of our biological nature... are you insane? Yes women just like all people have expressed themselves more openly the past 100 years, because they finally can, just like gays are no longer afraid to be themselves, masculine women and feminine males too. 100 years... BS. "Objectification" is something women actively encourage. If you walk into a room in a mini-shirt, and cleavage showing all but the nipple, men will not see you for your "intelligence". Come on, use some basic common sense.
it is much easier for women to show skin and curves rather than develop a personality and real skills.
Don't get me wrong, I like looking at women in skimpy clothes, but "objectification" is something YOU WOMEN do to yourselves.
I have days when I dress like this and dress when I dress like a "normal teenager" but most of the time when I wear dresses is when I am with my family because I feel like I wouldn't fit in with my friends like that.
May I ask, do you feel like the girl is respecting herself more when she is dressed like that? I'm just curious.
Well yeah that's the vibe I get, a girl covering herself means that she doesn't want herself or her body to go through any possible shame, therefore she respects her body and doesn't let anyone see it so easily.
But on a second thought, some people don't have that mindset and don't think like that at all, they might even think the opposite like "I respect my body so I'll make sure it gets peoples' attention"
I'm fine with that but it kinda irritates me to see that my perspective isn't so popular anymore ya know? I'm not mad about it or raging because of it, just an "oh well" moment.
And honestly I don't think you should care what you wear so you can fit in with your friends, if they shun you out because of your clothing then I doubt they're actual friends.
That's wise of you. I don't think they would judge me at all it's just my own fear of not fitting in. Though I have went to see them not giving a flying fuck about what I wear and had a good time, it's just like, I have days when I don't feel confident enough to do that and then I rather choose something that's just comfy.
Anyhow, I think there is something very elegant and beautiful about dressing kind of "Conservative". As a romantic I like the idea of the body being sacred. Though I think it's every individuals choice. But I get what you mean, I kinda relate.
And also because the popular clothes that are presented to us are very revealing and to find any modest clothing that is functional and not be judged as a granny is very hard so most of us just get used to the slutty clothes
Times change. I guess I'm kind of like you. While I don't think that we need to cover everything down to our ankles and wrists, I do wish that women and girls would wear skirts and dresses more :)
