For all the curly hair girlies! help?

So recently I have been trying to wear my hair curly, I watch all these girls on TikTok and see how absolutely gorgeous their hair is!!! mine looks nothing like it, I watch millions on millions of hair tutorials. my hair is between 2b and 2c. it used to look nicer and more defined ringlets when I was younger. even without using product but I always hated them so when I was old enough to do my hair, I consistently straightened it. one problem I have is my hair looks wet when I style it (even when dry) I do use oils and "scrunch out the crunch" a lot of people always tell me my curly hair looks beautiful and that they like it but I feel like I can't seem to get it right.

another problem, the right side of my hair looks way nicer than the left. the right has more defined curls while the other side just looks inconsistent. like one side of my head will look 2c and the other side will look less curly, like 2b. I can't seem to get it fluffy and defined like the girls online do. girls! any tips?

Oh my god girl, I feel your curly hair struggle so hard! But don't worry, we'll figure this out. A few things that might help:

- Make sure you're using a properly moisturizing curl cream or gel when styling. A favorite is Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel.

- Plop your hair in a t-shirt after washing to scrunch out excess water before adding product.

- Diffuse on low/cool heat setting if air drying takes too long - this helps define curls.

- Try parting your hair differently - mine looks better on the right if I part more to the left side. Experiment!

- Make sure to fully scrunch out the crunch once dry so it's not stiff.

- Try sleeping on a satin pillowcase to prevent frizz and maintaining curls overnight.

- Be patient - it takes awhile to really learn your hair! Don't stress if it's not insta-worthy yet.

I do almost everything on this list. but it still seems to have that wet look, I use shea moisture. a product that I really like. I do everything that the tips have told me to do but for some reason it just doesn't look right. I love my curls and I really want to make it work as my hair has gotten significantly longer and healthier by doing this but I really don't like the wet/ crunchy look. someone told me it could be because of all the heat damage and my hair just has to repair from it

Ugh that's so frustrating! If you're already doing all that stuff then it sounds like the heat damage might be the culprit here. Our hair can take awhile to bounce back from all the straightening over the years. A few more things you could try:

- Do a deep conditioning treatment with a masque packed with moisturizing ingredients like oils, butters, etc. Leave it on overnight under a shower cap for extra repair work.

- Try air drying 100% without any diffusing and see if that helps the wet look. Let it do its thing.

- Try mousse instead of gel or cream. Sometimes mousse defines better without the crunchy feel.

- You may need to baby your hair for a while - avoid heat tools completely and let it air dry as much as possible. Give it time to fully recover.

- Be gentle when scrunching out the crunch so you don't disrupt the curl clumps too much.

Keep rockin those curls proud even if they're still recovering! Your hair will bounce back with patience and TLC. Don't get too down, those curls are gonna glow up before you know it. Let me know if any other tips would help!
