I just feel like they’d stare only at someone who’s exceptionally pretty. My face and body aren’t great but I dress pretty nice. So I’m not sure if that’s it.
Ok first off I don’t thing 140 at your height is overweight. Second…. Let’s say you were 200 pounds, there are guys who like chubby girls. Whatever size you are there are guys who like that.
As for the average looks, I consider myself below average but I can still get girls. There is so much to what attracts one person to another. I smile a lot and have a great sense of humor. That’s better than good looks. Maybe there is more to you than your outer cover. Don’t sell yourself short. Sounds like you have something going on 😉
Because you are actually beautiful and don’t realize you are , You are your own worst enemy basically , usually when we look at ourselves in the mirror or see ourselves in pictures , we usually see ourselves as ugly or not so good looking our eyes and mind go right to what we don’t like about ourselves so we tend to attack our own selves , when someone else tells us we are beautiful , or attractive or good looking etc. we automatically assume that person. Is blind or we think to ourselves , what are they seeing that I am not seeing. It’s an insecurity that most people have , it’s a sign of low self esteem , when you learn to accept yourself for who you are and realize you are a beautiful person your confidence will rise. When we choose to accept ourselves as who we are it makes it easy for others to accept you for who you are
that's not really that bad 5 9 140... im 5 10 145 i don't think i'm overweight maybe on the bigger side... meaning i'm sure you look great in a dress... anorexic isn't exactly beautiful... you may think that's the way to be... so if men are looking at you probably when you wear dresses they you must looking pretty good in a dress... i get looked at hell of a lot more when i wear dresses too... so i definitely think that's the case with you... but your height and weight is pretty good not overweight.

140 at 5-8 is not really overweight. I'm guessing you are actually very attractive, and since you dress nice, guys check you out.
Remember that we guys are visual creatures. When we see something nice, we look at it, and stare if we think it's really nice.
Maybe you’re not average looking and you’re just hard on yourself? People only stare if you’re pretty or really ugly.
I think your average girl who is dateable in my age range is decently cute.
I will look at any girl who has something attractive about her.
You don't have to be perfect or beautiful at all. You don't have to be a 8 9 or 10. You can be a 4 and you might still have a cute nose or something.
If a man's body is functioning well and he doesn't feel pressured, then his eyes will be inclined to stare at anyone prettier than average for his tastes. As for women staring at you, I don't know.
no one truly knows except the person staring. it could even be as simple as people like to look at other people regardless of what they look like. people watching is a thing. but i wouldn't put too much thought into this
Maybe you aren't so average. I didn't think I was anything special at your age but looking back I see that I was fairly attractive. My wife was too and didn't know it either.
Don't be so hard on yourself. If you are cute you will always get attention from men regardless if you are thick or skinny. Straight men love women. That is life.

Most people are average. Average is attractive to most people. I would be far more likely to show interest in an “average” girl than one insanely attractive.
I am ptetty sure part of that weight is because of your height. I doubt if at that height, you are overweight.
As to why you get stares at, perhaps you have a good attractive personality.
Some people do take notice if someone is dressed nicely.
