Can someone explain to me the meaning of non-binary?

Question

I know it's supposed to be someone that isn't feeling being a man or a woman. But what else he/she can be?

I do get transgenders, because it's still binary, man to woman and woman to man.

It's not a criticise opinion, I genuinely don't understand the concept of outside the binary system, please explain it to me.🙏

It's just what it sounds: not a man or a woman. There's just a couple different kinds that I know of, that maybe a visual can help you understand it better.

First look at gender as a sliding scale with man on the left and woman on the right. Now make the sliding scale keep going further out on either side, past man and past woman into nothing. Then take this extended sliding scale and bend it into a circle, connecting the two edges together at the top. Now you have a circle with 100% man on the left, 100% woman on the right, both combined 50/50 on the bottom, and both fading to nothing at the top.

A nonbinary person can fall anywhere on that circle (except at the two 100% spots: man and woman). The two basic categories are those who fall on the lower half of the circle (somewhere between a man and a woman), and those who fall on the upper half of the circle (someone sort of a man or sort of a woman, or neither). At least that's how I think about it.

In practice of course none of this kind of thing really matters. All you need to know to be friends with a nonbinary person is to be respectful like you would anyone else, and ask their pronouns if you don't know. Most use one or a combination of the typicals: he she or they.

I only have 1 nonbinary friend and he would probably fall in the top left quarter of the circle, using he and they pronouns. Other nonbinary people use only they, or both he and she on different days, or "any". Their pronouns won't necessarily match exactly with their gender, but it's usually a good indicator. Just remember you don't have to know someone's exact gender to be respectful towards them.

Fundamentally, it means "having a poor grasp of human biology". In a less literal sense, it's usually applied to people who don't feel particularly like a member of their own sex, and/or who possess traits of the opposite sex, but enough to feel real dysphoria, i. e., they don't feel like a man, but not like a woman, either. In and of itself, this isn't really harmful, but the implications are nothing short of terrifying- a woman with some male traits is probably going to seem more masculine, but it doesn't make her "not a woman". In ages past, we'd've simply called her a tomboy and moved on; personality attributes were seen neither as parts of your character nor defining elements of your identity. We're going backwards in terms of treating people differently based on demographics.

Curiously, it's rarely applied to hermaphrodites, or those born with chromosomal abnormalities that mean they're actually somewhere between male and female- but then, those cases are vanishingly rare.

Non-binary is a gender identity where a person may identify as both a man & woman, neither a man or a woman, have a gender-neutral identity, or no gender. NB people can use any pronouns (that they're comfortable being addressed by of course), have any gender-expression (s), any gender roles, transition, or not transition at all. They see themselves as having a gender identity that might not fit into what is considered binary. Some may also consider themselves trans while others will not.

Nonbinary, quite simply, is the space between man and woman. There is a gender spectrum with “woman” on one end and “male” on the other end and nonbinary applies to any space in between those two points on that line. It’s usually inclusive of things like genderfluid (changes on the day), drag, and agender (meaning they reject gender entirely and usually end up going by they/them)

I tend to take the easy approach and use Gag as an example.
there are users and a high chance on this post as well, who have multiple accounts, at least one of their accounts is a Pink account with their other account being a Blue one.

So normally this guy logs in with his Blue account as he feels like being a guy, the next day or a few hours later he logs in with his Pink account, as obviously he feel more feminine and identifies as a girl.

If guys are guys, then surely they only ever have a Blue account, as having a Pink account would make them a GaG binary.

It can mean any number of things. I personally do not identify as anything in particular. I am a man, and I accept that but at the same time I simply feel as "me". If I woke up in a womans body tomorrow then I would not feel any different to how I do now. I would just go "Guess I am a woman today" and move on with my life.

I am just one example though, that of not really having any gender identity. More often it means someone is almost identifying with either male or female but has something they are deviating on.

I think it is those with mental issues due to trauma. An few I know of personally have told me they have been sexually abused as a kid, so I think it messed them up, so they identified as neither sex/gender.

Also, I think some think it is a fad. My friend's daughter went by they/them one week, then she/her, then they/them, back to she/her in a matter of a month. Lol
