Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yIt depends on a number of factors. I will start of by saying this about my girl. she's not into things like that so I know she’d never ask for such a thing. She’s beyond materialistic things, she knows what priorities are. Not that we struggle either. I work, she doesn’t. I am more than financially capable of taking care of us, our kids when they were minors, getting a house, a few cars, etc.
But in answer to your question about something like that. Sure if I felt she deserved it. My girl takes care of a lot of things. I get her numerous gifts of value, just recently an $800 necklace. She doesn’t ask for it but I’m happy to get it for her from me because of what she does for us. Now if it was some girl who felt that they should just be able to get it cause they’re entitled or whatever, than no. Especially if we’ve been together for a few months. My girl and I have been together for 17 years. It’s not about the money is most cases. It’s about our relationship.00 Reply

Sounds like a rip off. A well made military ruck/hiking bag to carry everything you need to live and fight for at least 72 hours that can endure the riggers of war is going to run you $200-250. What are you carrying in the thing, cash, credit cards, ids, keys, glasses, cellphone, lipstick, and tampons? A decent leather wallet can be had for $30 so a reasonable quality handbag should run maybe $50-$75. Anything beyond that is likely a marketing gimmick...

1 y$263.00 is a far cry from what I usually pay for purses.
I choose more particularly for quality, not necessarily by brand.
If one believes that $263.00 will go up in value or at least retain its value, not a bad investment.

Why do you need them for? Your clothes dont have pockets? Incapable of carrying anything?

If a purse is something I truly love and it's within my budget, I'd be willing to pay $263 for it. Fashion and personal style can be such individual expressions, and a well-crafted, quality purse might be worth the investment. Plus, if it brings joy and complements my wardrobe, why not? 👜✨

1 yIf it's made of high-quality materials and designed to last, I'd feel a little ripped off but birthday/Christmas presents are about making the other person happy (finding something I know she's going to like is a big relief).
If it's a piece of crap that's only expensive because of marketing and social media promotions? then I'll get it for her, but I will think less of her for wanting it. Finding a partner who respects the value of money and isn't a wastrel or squanderer is important. If she's shallow and materialistic, I'm probably going to be looking for someone else to share my life and finances with.
00 ReplyWith money like that the question is less about would and more about could. Men will do a lot and spend a fair amount of money but something like that is basically saying no social life for four months if you're lucky just to scrape enough cash together to buy it. 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck this is a luxury item that most men simply cannot afford if they wanted to.

@prettycrumblbb Well yeah, I mean I live with my dad temporarily after my mother kicked me out but it's in a rental which my dad is getting evicted from.
I ain't sleeping on the street but I'm homeless. The government isn't doing much to help, my friend got a council flat quicker than me and he was on the list after me but he does have a kid so that helped his case.
But still sucks to not have a place like that for myself. Still trying to push the government. - 1 y
@Kaneki05 Here a sudden charge like that is going to piss you off for a week. Think about it like this, get in your car start your engine and it stalls. For most Americans the first word out our mouth is fuck because now we know we have to pay at least 200 bucks if not more. Buying something like that for the average worker would be like for Christmas or a birthday because you would need to save up a couple months at least if you don't want bank account whiplash. It's not an on the spot purchase for most people here.
Where you at Europe? When I found out you guys could get a dozen eggs for two bucks, I was pissed it's 5-7 dollars for a dozen here at least where I live. Covid screwed egg prices and they haven't fixed themselves yet. - 1 y
@cormac995 Yeah cars are scams that's why I'll never own one nor worry about that. Great if your rich but otherwise it's great way to lose money.
I do know America more relies on cars due to been a bigger place and not supporting public transport as much. Though it varies from state and area I suppose.
England, yup that's true food over here is way cheaper but still. I've went to US two years ago so I know that, even the rubbish cheap pizza is expensive and tastes much worse than ours.
However you do get better sized drinks, and refillable culture unlike us.
But I don't think food prices are that high I would be able to unafford it. You do have the factor you guys need to pay for healthcare aswell.
Overall though a single person if working 40hrs in cheapest possible place to rent they should be afford something that costs 200-300bucks a month.
I would assume after you've spent all the money you need to that would be 70% of what you took home leaving 30%. So by lowest possible at minimum wage which is 1,200 Aprox that would leave you with $360.
- 1 y
@Kaneki05 Yea in most places if you don't have a car in America you're completely fucked. It's almost a necessity our towns and roads are designed with the understanding most Americans have cars and not based around public transport like in Britain. Our roads are narrower, and we don't have designated bus sections on almost all our roads. If Americans lost the ability to drive it would crash the whole economy.
Also to give you some idea of the economy here or at least where I live most of the jobs here pay minimum wage or just barely more. I did the math and just paying rent for a studio apartment here would cost over half my paycheck. Then you're required to have health insurance by law but gov insurance is very hard to get and you can tell how much the private sector side of health insurance. Then there's taxes then there's sales tax whenever you buy something and in my state FUCKING FOOD IS TAXED! Not to mention even if your private insurance doesn't fuck you like It did Lugi you still have co pays and they only cover part of the cost. - 1 y
@cormac995 All food to anything is taxed here but yeah not by the same high amount that's for sure, and over here we include it in the price rather making one do maths or even noticed it is taxed, but it all is.
Roads are way bigger over there not narrow but the difference is usage of the space really. I remember having to cross thinking sheesh it takes about 3mins to cross lol. While in UK it takes 1. But from my experience US has way worse drivers so they need the space just to not hit each other lol.
Tbf the size of vehicles are bigger too.
It is crazy, that you wouldn't be able to buy this within a paycheck. While me, who don't have a job easily could. The UK is certaintly flawed in many ways but I am glad to say I live here not there. Nice place to visit though is US.
- 1 y
@Kaneki05 I should have been clearer and your right part of what I meant about our roads being narrower is one like I said there are no bus lanes even in a lot of cities and they're nonexistent everywhere else. The Roads feel smaller and more narrow because of the size of the cars here and actually belive it or not it's because of chickens.
During the Kennedey administration Americans were producing so many chickens that we were able to sell chicken in Europe cheaper than European farmers could in their own hometowns. As a result, the UN was like "Hey you Americans have unhealthy chickens cause you use chemicals" and I mean fair that's not wrong, but it wasn't a public health concern it was an economic concern the chemicals thing just served a good justification. Anyways as a result they placed a tariff on American chicken so America as a result placed a tariff on foreign cars as a middle finger.
The problem was the wording of the bill it was based around carbon emission restrictions which again was how America was justifying the tariff to the public because people were salty about car prices going up.
The thing was the wording of the bill was based around an exhaust emission to weight ratio and what ended up happening was it was actually cheaper to make the cars they send to America bigger to alter the weight to fumes ratio than it is to make a lower carbon car so American cars are much bigger than anywhere else.
It's a classic case of politicians not understanding "If I do this, that will happen." Politicians with common sense foresight feel nonexistent. - 1 y

@incorrected www.gov.uk/.../homelessness-applying-all-our-health
And I quote 'living in insecure housing (threatened with severe exclusion due to insecure tenancies, eviction, domestic violence, or staying with family and friends known as ‘sofa surfing’)'
Notice how it says family? Thinking homeless means you have to be on the streets is wrong. Been homeless means you have no legal right to live somewhere, and at moment you could be kicked out onto the street.

- 1 y
@incorrected If you want to get into the semantics of words then maybe you should of read the part of temporarily, and ya know the part of been evicted which I mentioned. The words that gave more context to the situation.
Mine is an insecure temporary thing. And by definition I am homeless, and there is a reason why the center in my city is trying to help me, trust me if I am not homeless they would be doing anything to have that excuse not to help me.
- 1 y
@Kaneki05 Sorry if I caused any offence or irritation there. I'm living with parents at the moment, but it's a secure arrangement, that's why I was differentiating between the two kinds of arrangement. I wish you well, by the way. Life is really hard these days for a lot of us, and I didn't mean to add to your stress in any way. Best wishes to you, mate. :)
- 1 y
@incorrected No worries, everyone be in different situations. I understand what you mean too, it's becoming more common now for people to be with their parents so it don't sound that bad in fact it's normal but that's when it's stable.
Though if you are kicked out at anytime you are homeless, and even if my dad is much better than my mother who did from her's I don't want it to get to that situation again. Along with all other factors like my dad getting evicted anyway and hell I'm not even allowed here really. The landlord don't know about me. Worst comes to worst I have to go to my friends.
Thankfully I won't be on the streets no matter what happens, but I need a place and private renting would leave me on nothing really and due to my health etc it's not ending well that.
Anyway thanks, it's an easy misunderstanding and easier to explain if you saw it rather me explaining why. It's for sure not me just saying I'm homeless while living in a stable place with good parents because yup that would be weird if not wrong.
797 opinions shared on Fashion & Beauty topic. As a collector I buy things that are expensive so I don't really judge that. But with purses it's really easy to get knockoffs or just cheaper ones that are better if not same quality so I don't get it.
If it made them happy, and it was 50/50 so she had given me good gifts before I would get her it. But I would still be baffled by it.

1 yMaybe if I really like it... But not something I'd do regularly. I like to change my clothes and accessories a lot and therefore don't want to spend too much on each piece
00 Reply I have spent more on a purse for her than $263. She likes them so I give them. My sister has a $16,000 one but she got a special employee discount and paid half. I don’t complain because she bought me a $2,000 belt.

1 yIs it leather? Then it’s not a bad price. I bought my mom coach bag it’s about that price. It was on sale. I am tempting to buy more but I feel hesitant, I am low on cash and I don’t really know if she will like it.

I used to feel the same way. You are missing out. My wife and I have many beautiful things purchased at resale shops or thrift stores. A Patagonia jacket, like new, $25. Jean-Paul Gaultier mohair sweater, $40. Manolo Blahnik sandals $40. YSL boots $300 ($2000 new). It's a long list.
