Do you trust your hairstylist's suggestions when they suggest a new haircut?

I don't. I'm tired of having long layers but I'm too nervous to try something new because I've had couple of really bad experiences when I let the stylist do what they want with my hair.

Before my sister's wedding, my mum and sister took me to this new salon and insisted me to try a new look. So, this hairstylist did whatever she wanted. The result? My hair was much shorter than I wanted and she gave me freaking fringes! I looked horrible and I tried desperately to tie my hair up in a bun but little strands of hair would come out and so did the fringes even though I used so many bobby pins to keep my hair up. I looked like I was fed up and tortured in my sister's wedding pictures because I was tired of trying to fix my hair. 😭

After few years, another hairstylist insisted me to let her give me a different cut that she feels would look good on me. She wanted to give me multi-layer haircut and she did. The result? My hair looked like pomeranian's tail from the back when I'd wear my hair up in a ponytail. At least those dogs look cute but I didn't..😂😭🐶

Well, I've been cutting my own hair for decades. Started out in the military. We never knew if or when we would be in a place where we could get a haircut or a shower. So we bought the equipment and cut our own hair any time we needed to for hygiene in the field.

I kept it up after I left the military. Got good at it. Or at least acceptable at it. It saves a lot of time. Driving to and from a barber shop. Wait time. Actual time in the chair. And I can cut my hair and trim my beard in about 15 min any day of the week.

So the suggestions I get don't comes from professionals. It's usually women I meet or date who comment on my hair. Like "you should grow your hair out, I'd like to see you in longer hair". Or, try it without any real part in your hair. Hmm, never thought about it. OK, what the hell. It's hair. It can be cut and it grows back.

And seriously, I actually get compliments on my hair. So I'm not fucking it up too badly.

Understand your hesitation. Bad experiences are valid. Trust your gut feeling. Find stylist reviews. Show pictures. Communicate clearly. Start small. Gradual changes are best.

Noooooo! I have to be very specific. I also learned to never say, “I want it shorter,” or “I want something different.” If you want to try something new, I recommend looking through online pictures. Be sure to mention that you still want to be able to tie your hair back.

Nooo . One time, I had a hairstylist talk me into a certain cut and I let her do it. I liked it at first, but after a while, I regretted it. Only within the last couple of years did my hair get back to normal from that cut. Never again.

i just give them creative expression with a little guidance. usually works out. does help to see their dog. if their dog is a mess, car is a mess... next:)

I did in the past. However, God is now my primary hairstylist and made it very easy for me: #0 buzzcut. My conditioner and detangler bill has gone WAAAAAY down.

I always thought it was odd to just let someone else play in your hair, or in most cases i've heard "I asked for X and she did Y... OH WELL!" TF? "I went in to get one inch and came out with, *nearly bald* tee hee!"

Im unattractive weird and really gay so anytime i get a cut they rush to get it over with to have me leave. There is no small talk or questions like what are you doing this weekend because im ugly so they couldnt care less about me
