Guys, do you ask a girl out on your first date directly or indirectly?

Guys, when you ask a girl out on your first date do you make it clear that you ask her on a DATE?
Or do you try to conceal that you have a date in mind and so you try to ask her out in some indirect (can't find a better, more accurate word here) way? If so, what were these indirect ways that you tried to ask a girl out?
What were indirect ways that you have asked a girl out and she said no?

I think one guy might have tried to indirectly ask me out. I said no and later it hit me that he maybe was trying to ask me out in such a way... And I'd very much want to go out with him...

I would never even consider asking someone out on a date, directly or indirectly, before hanging out with her a few times or just getting to know her well. I'm a person who who places a MUCH higher priority over personality rather than looks, so I'd rather not risk dating her too soon. Besides, most guys come off as creeps if they ask a girl out on a date too soon without knowing much about her, unless the guy happens to be extremely good looking. I'm not, so I'd rather not take that risk of asking her out too soon.

And regarding your question, with my approach I don't really need to be indirect because if I do decide to ask her on a date, I only do it if I find her compatible (which is totally unrelated to her looks) and only if I'm confident that there is a 95% or higher chance of her saying yes (because I just hate being rejected).

I try to ask them on a date, without it makeing sound like a date. I just say "Hey, you wanna grab a beer/coffee/generl outing later?" I make it clear that I just want it to be me and her, but I don't make it sound like a date because if I do that, I become a nervous wreck

Indirectly I say do you want to hang out sometime? i get super nervous when I like a girl and really panic
Even if I'm sure they are into me the suspense kills me.
I pretty much forge they're even in front of me and just focus on getting the important " whats your number" out of my mouth, then once they're telling me it I'm trying to calm down and think of something nice to say before I leave. God I suck :((

I never call it a date, I just ask them if they want to go and/or do ____, that's it.
