A guy told me not to call him fam? Why?

I call everyone fam it's just a slang, casual way to address a friend
I was talking to my crush and I called him fam and he told me not to call him that. I'm not sure why he wouldn't want me to call him that?
Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that he might take it as a friend-zoning word? Like guys who are potentially interested don't like it when the girl they like calls them 'bro.' Another thing is like the anon guy said below is that it's different and I've never heard or been called that before. Just ask him what he'd prefer you call him

I guess he doesn't feel that close to you. Some people like to get all touchy when it comes to using slang as well. I would be sure to tell him he ain't that special and that it's just common slang.

It has been scientifically proven that people like to be called by their first name. A lot. Not only is "fam" a pretty stupid nickname, but it also doesn't let him know that he's more special to you than everyone else that you refer to as "fam." You're pushing him into the same lot as the rest of your friends.
