Why do some people lead others on?

Why is it that some people lead others on when they have no interest in them at all? Is it that they enjoy setting people up to have their hearts broken?

I thnk its the simple rule of the mind

those who care matter
and those who matter dont care

you have to be able to aprpeciate what you can give and thats it, never put in more than you can give , keep a high standard, and dont let someone make you feel that you aren't good for them

shame on that person to lead on and who doesn't know what he wants at life at all..

it may be innocence flirtation but some people are soft minded and can easily be trapped by someone who is just being friendly.

Letting people down is hard. And in most cases, getting attention is nice. It's like 100% easier for you to lead them on and go with it than to break their heart. (Until they finally ask you out and you decline...)
Also some people don't intend to lead others on, they are just being kind.

I would assume that they feel bad to break and tell them the news and hopefully just being nice to them and not telling them that they are interested is the way to go.

Or it could be a number of other reasons. But the one above just jumps right at me

Rather than "enjoying setting people up to have their hearts broken," I believe a lot of it has to do with the person who leads on, is afraid of delivering bad news to the other person. At the time they don't want to feel bad about rejecting and hurting the other person. So they continue to be pleasers and try to be nice. As a result, they indirectly lead a person on because they are too cowardly to say no.

Some are naturally flirtatious. Others may simply enjoy the attention and, or feelings of being pursued and wanted. Then, there are those that simply like to toy with the feelings of others; players.

They want the female attention, and to know that they are desired, and that they have the capability to lure someone in. I guess it comes down to a poor self image.

It buys them some time... they like the idea and benefits of a relationship but never want to truly be in one. So they lie to prolong the inevitable.

some people enjoy the feeling of being wanted. others do like breaking hearts but its usually the former.

Insecure, attention seeking narcissists love it. They play with hearts and don't care what happens to them. my bf did it. All these women thought they were his girlfriend.

They are bored and honestly I don't think they know what they are doing. Can't lie but I've done it in the past. Only because I had no other guy talking to me at that time. Terrible, I know.
