Why didn't he ask for my number?

I met this guy through a mutual friend. We got to know each other through email for the first 2 weeks, exchanged pictures, and he finally asked me to meet up for dinner. We met at this casual restaurant. He gave me a side hug when he first saw me. We sat down and had a really good dinner (he paid), flowing conversation, lots of laughter, and he seemed a little nervous, because he was chatty and shaking his legs a lot. We finished our meal and talked for a while, then he said he had to get going to prep for work. (It was a Thursday night and he's a doctor) We had been together for an hour and a half. So he walked me to my car and said that "we should really do this again sometime." He gave me a front hug and said "I'll talk to you later."

Here's the thing... he didn't ask me for my number and he only has my email address. Does this mean "he's not that into me?" I thought if he liked me, he would have asked for my number.

Probably a mistake. You said it yourself that he seemed nervous. I can tell you now that I forget stuff like that when I am with a sweet girl and am nervous. Don't worry about it. He was probably thinking about so much that he just forgot. You'll hear from him again and he will definitely ask for it soon. Uh ohs happen

Eh. That kinda depends I guess. It's just like the first date, it's whenever they can make time for it. If the first went well, hopefully he should be excited about gettin to go on a second one so it won't be too long of a wait

You should totally email him. Don't bring up anything about the phone number. Just be like, "Hey. Whatcha been up to? How have you been?" If he doesn't email you back after a few days, then it's probably best for you to just move on. Hate to say =(

It's quite clear that if you want anything you'll have to take pro-active steps.

Putting aside the fact that this guy might not be into me...

if he is into me and just doesn't make the big moves, what does that say about him? I mean will I always be the one having to make to moves?

It says that he's not very confident in himself, that he's not a risk taker.

If a relationship were to form, you may not have to make all the physical moves because he'll assume there's no risk involved. However this may also translate into other areas of his life (ie. not wanting to try new things). This is all speculation.

He may have just been happy that this thing went so well and forgot, or was going to and lost his nerve. It happens.
