What does he mean by saying he "sorta" likes me?

I like this guy a lot because he is cute, smart, sweet, athletic and just a great guy. We went out a long time ago for a brief time and he broke up with me and said it was because I was too good for him and I was a distraction...and he's never really been a relationship kinda guy.

But we still talk a lot, I mean all the time and he always flirts with me and tells his guy friends he's still into me yadda yadda;)

So I was tired of mixed signals and just told him straight up that I still liked him and if he liked me too.

His reply: I sorta like you.

What does this mean? Because after that we kept talking like nothing happened. Is he shy or what?

I'll tell it straight. He likes to flirt with you, and he thinks you're cute. He doesn't wanna stop talking to you because he thinks it's fun to flirt with you sometimes. However, he's not into you enough to make it something real. To actually have a relationship or a commitment. Because truth be told, you're probably not the only girl he thinks is cute and has fun flirting with. So he "sorta likes you." In other words, he wants to have his cake and eat it too. He doesn't want you to go away so he "sorta" keeps your hopes up.

You don't need to drop the guy as a friend or start up drama, but definitely look elsewhere. Stop flirting with him or giving him that much attention. Soon he'll start wondering and asking why you're not acting the same in which case you can tell him that he wasn't sure about you, so you're not interested anymore. It'll make him have more respect for you. If you're just the girl hanging around and living off of every bread crumb he throws your way, he'll never take you seriously as a potential girlfriend.
