Why do shy people ignore/avoid the person they like?

In my opinion, I think they ignore/avoid the person they like because they're too scared to tell them their feelings, accidently make a fool of themselves, and if they do tell the person they like, they're probably too scared to tell them their feelings and possibly get turned down.

Because being shy means it's uncomfortable to be calm and be yourself. If you like someone you're already nervous about coming across a certain way so you end up avoiding the person you like so you won't embarrass yourself.

They are shy and they have a fear what if they dont like me then they will feel crushed if it does not work out

I'm shy and do this sometimes. It's because that person is sacred and fears that their crush might reject him/her. I have a fear of being so awkward and dorky in front of my crush that I avoid him.
