Why do shy girls often avoid eye contact around guys they like?

I don't get it, cause even if I felt shy or nervous around a girl, the last thing I would do is avoid eye contact. Why do shy girls often avoid eye contact around guys they like?

I'm a shy girl. I do that but not really sure why. I think if we look up and see the guy looking at us then it makes us even more nervous and shy. Shy girls tend to not wantto ssay anything stupid. So if we don't keep eye contact then its easier for us to not sound stupid.

hahaha! totally agree!! they (guys we like) make our hearts skip beats... and yes he is our crush and we want to look good infront of him and not say anything or look stupid
but hey! we could also be avoiding it because we're scared we get lost in their eyes**

Because they may see me blush. Also, I think they may not find me attractive by their standards. I don’t want to ruin anything, so i avoid eye contact most times.
