Does homecoming count as a date?

So there's this one girl that I know and I'm taking her to homecoming. We aren't together, and currently just friends, but I do have feelings for her and I think that she may feel the same way towards me. Would this count as a first date? Would it count as the start of a relationship?

I think it depends on the way you asked her, did you make it sound like it was just you guys going together or going together like a date. Besides even if it isn't counted as a date it could be considered the road to a relationship if you decide to go that far.
