Do you avoid eye contact with random guys whom you see?

Suppose a guy is a total stranger and you are passing him or you see him in the same room. Do you avoid eye contact? If so, is it because he isn't attractive, or is it because you don't know him? Or do you avoid eye contact if he IS attractive?

I think you always make eye contact. It is respectful and I think respect is something people only talk about. If that guy is attractive or not shouldn't even be a factor. Plus eye contact show confidence.

I don't make eye contact, especially if the girl is really attractive and I think she won't make eye contact back. So I guess I'm low on confidence eh?

it could be both ways. if he's attractive it's intimidating and if he isn't then there's kinda no point in making eye contact you know? or maybe the girl is too shy.

I'm an okay looking dude, so is there really a reason why girls would look away when we pass each other? Or do some girls only make eye contact with "hot" guys?

I usually avoid eye contact because I am cautious around those I don't know but moreso because I don't want to appear overly eager for your attention.

Thank you duffygal for your answer. I feel real insecure when I see a girl approaching or I'm walking by a girl and I peak to see if she is peaking and it turns out she isn't. It just makes me feel ugly and unwanted. I know I can't expect girls to just stare me down head to toe, because I'm not hot or anything. But I am decent looking, which should be enough for your average girl. I know it probably doesn't mean anything when a girl avoids eye contact, especially when I don't know her....

Most of the times I make it a point to avoid eye contact if he is attractive. Other times my avoidance is just me being socially awkward.
