Its definitely not because he doesn't like you. Either he is a shy guy in general and doesn't know how to talk to you really or he things your way out of his league and doesn't want to make a fool of himself infront of you. If you want him to feel more comfortable around you try smiling at him and inviting him to do stuff, make a point to try and include him. If he doesn't join in even though you've invited him again he's just shy don't give up on him. It will probably take some time to get him to open up but in my experience shy people make the most amazing friends when given the chance.
You will have to experiment more. One way to get a hint is his reaction when giving you what you ask for. Next time you ask, focus on his face and body language. Does it look like he's nervous and having trouble finding what you want? Or does he just plainly grab it and hand it to you? That might help.
