A girl I like told me that I would make a good father. Was this a sign of attraction?

I was hanging out with my female friend who lives in my dorm, and we started talking about having kids and whatnot in the future. At one point in the conversation she blurted out, "you'd make a great father," like she said it really seriously and not in a teasing way at all. I like this girl, and I'm wondering if this was a sign that she's interested in me as more than friends. We do flirt and act playful with one another, but it's always hard to tell when a girl is genuinely interested rather than just playing around.

I want to say yes, but I also want to say no... and here's why:
I think it really depends on the context. Typically speaking though, I have ONLY ever said this to a guy I might be interested in, because it's like me validating in a subtle way that you'd be a suitable partner (especially if kids are important in your future). So, I think there's a good chance she might at the very least be considering you.
However, it's such a small detail and she could have just said it as a passing comment. Some people don't have filters and they just say whatever comes to mind, not really thinking about it, so it could mean nothing more than "I think that you'd be a great dad". If you do flirt pretty often, it could be a good sign combined with this comment, but it's really hard to tell!
Personally, I'd say she might like you. Pursue it, see where it goes!

No I don't think so. I've known lots of guys it's been said to, heard friends say it to guys, and said it myself to guys, plus had quite a few guys tell me I'd be a good mother.
I think usually it is just a genuine compliment. You were talking about kids and parenting, so it makes sense she'd say it if you said something good.

These girls saying it means she wants your babies are nuts. That's just creepy. Some random friend like "I want your babies" lol no. I've never heard people like that irl only on movies so I'm very surprised they said that lol.
You'd more likely think you want kids with somebody when you've been with them and they've made an excellent partner, stable relationship etc. Maybe they're joking about that, I don't know.

I take your point. She and I haven't done anything yet, so we're very preliminary in our relationship. But she's not just a random friend. There's more to our relationship than that. I don't think @TayTay21 is nuts, either. I've had girls tell me things similar to that in the past, so I don't think it's far-fetched. But it's hard to know.

Yes, as I said, people say it to people. Doesn't mean they want his/her babies. I literally wrote that people say it, I've said/heard it.. so i know people say it. I'm just saying it's not generally because they want your kids. That's just weird.

I think it depends on the girl and level of attraction. Some girls get very attracted to guys and lose themselves in the moment.

Well if you guys were already flirting with each other then her telling you that might mean something, attraction wise. Personally, I can tell a guy that even if I have no feelings for him, it's just me being honest and giving him a compliment.

Without more information, I can't form a conclusion. However, being told you would make a good parent to me personally is one of the top compliments.

It's hard to know sometimes. I've had girls tell me I was a great catch and try to fix me up with friends but not be into me personally. Other girls have told me that I was boyfriend material who I later found out really wanted me to ask them out.

'Great boyfriend material' is different than great father.
I guess it helps a lot if you are quick on your toes.

Could quickly be followed up with half-jokingly:
"Wanna make my babies?"
Her answer could be quite telling.

But gotta be very quick on your feet.

Most younger girls don't take directness very well, though, like they think you're not playing the game right or something. I prefer to be direct, too, but I worry about seeming like I'm coming on too strong.
