What the heck is half-pint?

Some guy who works in the same department as me, recently started calling me half-pint.. what kind of nickname is that? i dont know if it has to do me with being only 5'0 lol... but either way its the weirdest nickname anyone has ever called me...

It means you are small. He doesn't mean it in a bad way, but it's not a very good thing to say. The term has been around for a long time and it's not meant to be derogatory. It's actually more of an affectionate term, like an older brother would call a kid sister. That still doesn't make it a good thing to say to most people.

Yes, it's a bit of an old fashioned term for a short person. A half pint is smaller than a pint, that's the logic behind it. It's not an offensive term though, not if used in friendly circumstances. Okay, it's a bit height-ist but there's worse things you could be called.
