Flirting with girls: straightforward and blunt or subtle and slow?

So, I've tried both, but I'm more natural at being straightforward and confident when I'm hitting on a girl. Usually ill compliment there looks with something like "Damn your pretty hot" or something to that affect, joke around a lot, usually give some strong hints like asking if she has a boyfriend, and if they show interest ill ask them out. I'm 16(ish) right now and it seems like a lot of the girls only flirt with guys they already know well, so should I be taking it slower? I just hate when girls play games and completely hide there interest, so I just assume girls feel the same way and do what I would want them to do. Looking for some girls opinions. I try not to come off as perverted but I feel like I might be, Still is that really that bad? I think its funny and cute when girls have a sexual sense of humor like I do.

Saying 'Damn you're pretty hot' does not constitute as flirting. That's just something a tool would say. No girl wants to be objectified, which is what you're doing when you use adjectives like: hot, sexy, fine, etc. when approaching and hitting on a girl.

Do you not know anything?

Try going up to a girl and complimenting her on her appearance in general, in a polite way, like: You look great/gorgeous/pretty/beautiful. Then introduce yourself and ask for her name and go from there.

To be honest that sounds a lot more like me, but of all my friends the ones who get the most action are the ones who are kind of assholes to girls, and say stuff like that.

Then the girls that those stupid lines actually work on are trash. No girl wants to be objectified like that unless she's a slut.

Be a gentleman, eventually you'll find a girl who appreciates that you are one. Most do.

If you walked up to me and said "damn, you're pretty hot", I would walk the opposite way. Try to be a bit more subtle and gentlemanly

Subtle and slow.
When you are straightforward, it takes the "fun" of guessing out of the situation. At younger ages, that is extremely powerful and in your favor. It keeps you from smothering your own attractiveness and ultimately drags them towards you.

At older ages (Late 20's) this is less effective. It's ALWAYS best to be honest, genuine, and fun.
