Should I text him after a week of him not texting me?

I met a fantastic guy walking my dog about 2 weeks ago. It was late and I just got home. He met me outside with his dog. We talked in person for 30 - 45 min. that night. I was hooked from that moment. Two days went by and I rolled out of bed, looking horrible ( just my opinion) I went to walk my dog. It was as if he was waiting for me. I wanted to turn around and run when I saw him. I knew I looked horrible, but I stayed and we talked for almost a hour. At the end of this conversation it was like he was waiting for something, So I gave him my number. He first texted me 20 min. later and we texted all day until I ended the conversation. I waited three days for him to text me again first and he didn't, So I texted him and he responded immediately. Waited again for him to text me first and I ended up texting him again. Again he responded immediately. Now its been a week since I have texted him. I don't know what to do. Everyone is telling me to wait. But I don't think I can. If he likes me wouldn't he text me? We really hit it off those days talking to each other. And he was really respectful. What should I do?
