Should I text him after 3 weeks of no contact?

I’ve been talking to this guy for 7 months now and I decided to not text him for 3 weeks as I recently heard from a friend that he told her that he isn’t talking to me like that whilst he knows I have an interest on him (mind you after that day, he went ahead and texted me complimenting me on how great I looked, mind u he recently started showering me with compliments and texting first…as well as he doesn’t talk to other girls in person) , also because of the fact that he was busy with a work project and I also didn’t want to disturb…so those are the 2 reasons that i didn’t text him. Today a friend of mine decided to text him saying “don’t fumble the bag” (the “bag” being me) without my permission. I also went out to a carnival at his place at work and since he wasn’t at this place, i was thinking of texting him just to start small talk on why he didn’t come and just catch up a bit after 3 weeks. But I feel like since my friend texted him, he might find it suspicious that I am texting him too on the same day, after 3 weeks of no contact.
so what do i do? Do i text him or leave him…
