Guys, I came back from a holiday, should I text first or wait for him to text (and call it quits if he does not)?

I (26) went on one date with a guy (30), it was great but life came up (job changes, parents, travels, etc) and we haven't managed a second date yet. It's been 5 weeks since date one, but we texted regularly (not daily but consistently) for the first 3.5 weeks (plus a week before that, so overall 4.5 weeks). Then he went on holiday (told me he would), and in the middle of his holiday, I went on a business trip too. Now I am back, and it is a week and a half since we last spoke (short chat after he went on holiday when I texted him to have some well-deserved fun and it developed in a nice short convo, he did reply immediately even if on holiday).

The thing is, I told him when I would be back but not sure who is to text first. It's been a week and a half of no contact, so part of me is thinking he is no longer interested and I should just forget it rather than pursue desperately and have it drag on and on. On the other hand, the last two chats were really nice, and it does seem weird to stop at that. I am usually really chill about texting first and all, but I started the last conversation, and it feels a little bit like I am reminding him of my existence (which I am fine after exchanging a couple of messages, but not really after 4.5 weeks of chatting)
