Do you believe in serendipity? Or is it bullsh*t?

Question

If you don't know what the meaning of serendipity is, here you go- an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.

I'm waiting for that one serendipitous moment or event. That I'll just randomly, by chance, run into the guy I'll spend forever with. It'll be an instance where we both just know. It'll be so bizarre or romantic or something in-between. I'm talking like out of a story book or a movie.

Is it too romantic to be hopeful for that?

I don't think that it's too romantic. Is there such a thing as being called too romantic? I don't think so, it's only a case of it being too confronting to take it at face value. Having said that, is it too hopeful? Most definitely.

I don't want to rain on your parade, because if we don't have hope, then what do we have? But to be honest, waiting for a situation like that, will be quite far fetched. I'm not saying that it won't happen, or that it can't happen, I'm just saying that you might be waiting for a long time for it too happen, if at all. I"m all for it though!

But the idea of knowing that you'll be with someone for the rest of your life, would be very difficult to conceive. There must be something that would make you think in such away, and also remember that it takes two to tango, so he must feel that instant attraction immediately as well. So if it were a case of meeting someone, that you eventually end up the rest of your life with, I can understand, only after long deliberation of who they are, and what they represent. But to fall for someone, based on nothing, I personally think is far fetched.

How do you know who he'll be, if you don't know anything about him, unless you're only considering physical aspects? Unless you're considering the innate feelings about something... like a gut feeling, but even then, all you have going for you is physical appearance.

Don't get me wrong, I hope for one day to meet someone, that I want to spend the rest of my life with, but I only think that this will happen, if I get to know the person, and not just go off a gut feeling (based on looks).

Sorry, I must be interpreting this question incorrectly.

I do believe in it. But realize that there are hundreds of thousands of guys out there, which try to do this for a girl every, single, day - and yet they go unnoticed. What I think is more powerful is when a man is well-rounded in being able to: attract women, pleasure women (but emotionally and physically), be a great father-figure, be mature, is good looking, etc.

There are millions, if not billions, of ways that we can each "self-improve".. Which leaves us no reason to wait around wandering in the dark, and instead suggests that while we wait we should continue to improve ourselves.

Hopefully the wait is short :P

Actually happened to me last year. I wasn't looking fir it , I didn't want it & I killed it because I have/ had archaic rules I made years ago that prevented me from 'wasting' my time in relationships-but it did happen. & Tho I was evolving out of that mind set,(no relationships, no love) I didn't sort it out in time. I hurt him for absolutely no discernible reason as far as he could see, it because it was not about him, it was about my rules. ( tbh if I was him I don't think I would talk to me ever again.)

We share many traits two of which are extreme stubborness & pride- to a fault. Suffice to say we never got back to good as a result of both of our actions. But I'm sure that was my serendipity- do I think ill get another ?- No not at that intensity, perhaps ill have minnie ones, nothing as powerful and absolute as that was. I think ill meet people ill like- maybe fall in love with, but I think I was supposed to be with him. Even tho I don't theoretically agree with supposed to- I was :P

Its not that it was all perfect , it wasn't but it always felt right every single aspect - even the bad stuff,-just being with him felt right. I fought against it & I guess you could say, I won :)

If you are the perfect woman, then you are bound to run into the perfect man, sooner or later. Unfortunately, so many of us are flawed. If you are flawed too, you are wasting your time looking for someone who is perfect. In this case, what I would suggest that you do is this:

If you want a rich guy, you must become rich.

If you want a beautiful man, you must become a beautiful woman (inside and out).

In other words: "Be" that which you desire. And, too, there is also great potential happiness and love waiting for you even with those guys that you think are losers on the surface.

So, the next time the bus driver asks for your phone number, you might consider giving him a chance, even though he is no Brad Pitt, George Clooney, or Donald Trump.

no I don't think so.

My guy and I found each other accidently. We knew each other in 6th grade. Then we went our seperate ways. 2 years after college I moved to a new state and found him on facebook. he happened to be in my state because he was stationed there for a few months for the army. We decided to meet because we sort of knew each other and we fell in love. He was only there for a few months so he had to leave after 3 months back to Europe but we skyped and we fell deeply in love so then we got married so now I live in Europe with him.

I'm a guy who loves using big words but I've got to say that the way allot of people are using the word, serendipity and serendipitous, grinds at my sensorial nervous system. Proper or not if it doesn't sound right don't use it.

That being said, here goes my opinion.

No I don't believe in randomly finding that one special person. I don't believe in fairy tale romances or story book endings. Life just doesn't fit that frame of mind. The only way to find anything is to search. You'll go through multiple partners and find sadness more often then happiness. If any other reality were true, happiness would be common and loose its appeal.

Taking another frame of mind... How could you ever know that you found the person best suited for you without having spent the time searching and amassing a catalogue of comparisons? Only through searching do were acquire the tools to our success.

Serendipity in the sense that you sit around and do nothing and a charming prince pops out of the woodwork and carries you off into the sunset? I guess it could happen, but I surely wouldn't bet on it. I'm in the camp that says you make your own luck. If you want to have a great guy approach you, improve your odds! I would bet that there aren't that many romantic, great guys who regularly hang out in your bedroom, so don't just sit in your room dreaming about guys sweeping you off your feet. Find a place where guys hang out, and go introduce yourself to some people. That makes your odds of some sort of "serendipity" go up drastically.

Be hopeful, but also don't be helpless. Make your own serendipity.

Serendipity does not happen when you wait for it. Just like how a watched pot never boils.

Have you seen the movie "Yes Man"? I think that is as good an explanation of Serendipity as you will find. The general attitude is that life is always sending you opportunities as they may come in any form. All you can do is practice saying "yes" to those unexpected opportunities, whatever they are. If you say yes to the opportunities that present themselves in your life you will probably have a lot of great adventures and some of them will lead to something amazing.

If you sit around, locked in a routine that never lets you meet new people, then no. Serendipity will never come to you.

Serendipitous things do happen if you mean a "desirable" thing "by accident". And honestly I think there might inherent randomness in the universe. Radioactive decay happens at a given rate but the processes are unknown and we can't predict which atoms will decay.

Its important to remember that when serendipitous things do happen, it is "meant to be" - but only by chance! But expecting serendipity is definitely not too hopeful :) Optimism and the power of thought will probably make us happier people.

I do believe that things happen for a reason, but I also think we are in control of our own destiny.  Nothing can happen if we don't allow it.  I watched that movie, & did think that was bullcrap.  If you find love you need to go for it.  Did that woman ever think fat brought them together the 1st time because they were supposed to get together than.  I don't think you should temp fate like the characters did.

there is an old story in china: one day, a farmer was sitting beside a tree. a rabbit ran very fast and hasn't avoided that tree. so the  farmer got a rabbit at that place. after that, he quit his farm work and waiting beside that tree. did he get another rabbit? of course not. the thing you said do happen but you cannot wait for it or expect it without any move.

it can happen, it has happened to me a bunch of times but just because it isn't as huge as you may want it to be doesn't mean to doesn't happen.  Sure it can happen the way you said it for sure but it remember that it doesn't happen to everyone...life isn't a movie

That would be too many coincidences for me. Serendipity requires a bit of  faith right? Or at least it leads in that direction. I strongly disagree, and prefer to believe in hard work. Going after what you want. If you want someone/something, go after them/it. Nothing is going to go your way simply because you want it to.

I don't believe before.. but when I met this guy in the office, he's station is just next to me. We didn't talk nor greet each other for months, because were in different department and I hate the fact that they complain to our big boss because of our team are just noisy. But come this  February  we met in a religious event, I was surprised that he is a worship leader and a church servant. The person that I least expect to be is now the person that I wanted to be with. I think it's my karma..
