Why put your hand/ fist on chest/ heart when talking to a person? (mostly girls)

I have goggled this, couldn't find anything. I have an interest in the psychological aspects of body language and figured some one here must have an idea. When I was talking to a girl she put her fist on her chest when she said something. The tone in her voice sounded more serious at that point as well. I have noticed this with other girls too, I want to know if any one else has noticed this? Or is there any possible meaning to it? I believe the person is being sincere about what they are saying while the hand is there.

That is super interesting, I never noticed before but I do do that a lot. Thinking about it, I don't think it's so much that I do it when I'm being sincere but I do it a lot when I'm nervous about what I'm saying, or insecure. I think I also tend to do it when I'm being flirty and playful but I really like the guy so I'm nervous about how the convo goes. I wrap my left arm around my waist and put my right hand over my heart. I don't know if that helps since it's not a scientific reason or whatever but that's when I do it.

I'm one of those people that talk with their hands, and I do so not only because of habit but also since I want to get my point across. I never really noticed girls did until you asked...but my reason could also be other girls' reasons for doing this.

Plus, it could be a way of saying "that's heartbreaking !" or "I deeply feel/connect with what you're saying" or "I want you to take me seriously."

You got it, Contact while engaging mean they want direct attention. The fact they hold your hand to their heart, it is where the message is coming from!

second question then lets say some one tells you your a good friend, (with hand on their heart) but then say I can always count on you (no hand this time). same sentence but no hand the second part does that mean they do not mean it?

no the second part is a continuation... The begining shows the direction of the message
