Why Do Girls ask for Breaks?

Me and my girlfriend just recovered from a break? Why do females always ask for them if they know they uselessly don't work and if they want to see other guys. Why not just break up with the guy, why lead him on?

I asked for a lot of breaks from my guy when we first dated because I really liked him but I didn't want to let him go, yet I wanted to get a breather from thinking about him and his "problems". He had a lot of problems. Family problems, ex girlfriend issues, and issues with his life in general. I didn't like it, and I didn't want to think about it and have it affect me. so I wanted a break, not to cheat on him and see other guys but just to say that he isn't my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about him for a bit. See if I'm happier without it. Usually I think breaks are good for couples if they set out the terms of "no cheating" and "after 3 weeks, we talk about how we still feel about each other and get back together" so that there's no if this and that. Well tell you the truth, my guy felt that a break meant "breaking up" so he refused to let us go on breaks and so we NEVER went on a break. We were pretty stuck on each other, like we talked on skype 2-5 hours a day or more, and we wrote 2-5 letters (very long love letters ) to each other every single day. So he didn't want to stop that... and we didn't. But I did ask for a LOT of breaks. *sigh*. Anyways he felt that I was going to get away so he married me only after 3 months of dating! We're married almost a year now.

While I don't disagree with the guys below, I know why I asked for a break with my ex.

I wanted to be with him, and no one else, but he was very controlling and insecure. To this day he SWEARS I've cheated on him... and in our relationship, I never even thought about it.

He was intrusive, spoke critically of everything about me. I couldn't do anything right; there was NOTHING I could ever do to make him more secure.

Every night I would sit at the phone, wondering which version of him I'd get on the phone. The last year of our relationship was my first year in college, states away and once night he hacked into my facebook after accusing me of unimaginable things constantly...

And even though I wanted to be with him more than anything I just couldn't take it anymore. I knew the break would scare him, and it did. It humbled him for a couple of hours. I called the break off the next morning when he didn't know if that meant we weren't together, because I thought he would appreciate me more. He was an expert at sorry.

I know now I should have ended it that night. Nights before that, actually.

But that's the only time I've asked for a break...

Most of the time break = break up. Usually its for another guy, she's lost the "spark" with you, or she wants to go out and play without any remorse because she is single. While keeping you waiting for her, she will feel that she can come back to you anytime she wants on her terms. It's almost the same when a girl wants to be "friends" after a break up. If she says she wants to "find herself", that means that she wants to find someone else to be a part of her because you are not "completing" her. It like this. You wouldn't quit a job without already having another job would you? By having another job, you still have your needs met while leaving behind the job that didn't suit your needs. Girls can do this all the time because there are always men chasing after them. When girls do this they literally put in their 2 weeks notice and it's best to move on right away. Don't be her safety net, don't become "friends" with her because it wouldn't be a true friendship, and please don't become her emotional tampon when she has problems. Stop all communication with her and move on, don't chase, have fun with your life, and date other girls.

regardless of what she says(if you ask) majority of the time its because of another guy. whether the other guy is "just a friend" or not. or she just see's a hot guy and wants him for a single night if you catch my drift. a break is a free pass to do just that. its a way for her to say when that happened we weren't together. she does what ever she wants and then calls you sayin how stupid the break was. if I were you I'd jus move on to the next one. because a woman should know what and who she wants from the start. if a woman truly wants you then a break should never come to be. if she wants a break then she's obviously not into the relationship like you are. because like I said, if she was then there would be no break.

She wants a security blanket. She's afraid to be alone, so she doesn't want to completely push you away, but at the same time she questions whether or not you are right for her (and whether she is right for you). You are what she intends to fall back on if her ventures back into the dating pool don't work out as well as she hoped. Basically, she is looking for the bigger better deal and keeping you as a something to settle for if she can't get one.

Dump the b*tch. Find someone who wants you because she thinks you are the best, not because she thinks you are the best she can get.

don't worry. I've been there myself, and it sucks. ditch her! if she values you that little that she's willing to string you along for personal gain, she was never worthy in the first place.

I personally don't see the point in "taking breaks." It's just an excuse for playing the field and postponing a full-fledged break-up in my opinion. But sometimes people don't feel as comfortable in their relationship so they seek attention and connection from other dudes. And a break seems like a good way to find that.

Also, sometimes people just need time alone - no romantic entanglements whatsoever - to work on themselves.

Sometimes the relationship is stressful but you don't want to let the person go and you don't want to lose them but you need space from each other. But I don't know if you 2 were fighting or what so I don't know why she said that.

they sometimes do work. and breaks aren't meant for you to meet other guys. it's meant for you to take a break from ALL guys and just get to know yourself again and figure out what you want from the relationship
