In university - How do I approach this guy I find cute but don't even know?

We live in the same residence of 800 first year students.

The first time I saw him, we were both locked out of our rooms and were asking the front desk to help us out. Ever since then, I've noticed him in the cafeteria. It is hard to approach him because he's always with friends.

I only think he's good looking, I don't know anything else about him. There are too many people in the res for us to meet at some res event or party. The next time I see him when he's alone, I want to say something to get his attention or name at least. What can I say that won't creep this guy out?

*I'm most likely going to talk to him if I'm ever alone in the elevator with him or if he's sitting alone in the cafeteria. What can I say to him in these situations? I'm a pretty confident girl but I think he's shy so I don't want to make him creeped out

Well, if you suddenly have a burst of confidence the best way to approach him would be at a coffee shop. "Accidentally" knock into him, spilling his drink (but not onto him). Apologize for being so clumsy and insist on buying him another coffee; after you buy him a coffee, you sit down to coffee with him. You've just gotten him to have coffee with you (check number one in a relationship). This would be great because he would most definitely remember you; adrenaline makes our memories more vivid.

Assuming you don't want to be so bold, look for something remarkable about the way he's dressed. Ask him where he got his shirt, tie, scarf, bandanna, tomahawk, armband, etc. This is a great excuse to talk to him even if he's not alone, as you can tell him you like his shirt (or whatever) and ask him where he bought it.

lets see...men are simple creatures.honestly if your cute enough you can walk up to him & say she shells sea shells by the sea shore & he'll laugh & the relationship can start from that.but in all seriousness if you catch him alone it's probably easiest to compliment on something you like about him.if your feeling bold you can tell him how cute he is.just keep in mind really what's the worst that can happen which is probably he'll say thank you & walk off which isn't that bad.so give it a shot :)
