He rejected me, why's he still contacting me?

Basically after texting/flirting for a while, I asked this guy out and rejected me. Well he said maybe but I took this as a no. A few days later he texts me quite late (over the weekend) asking what I am doing. Why would he do this?

I'm thinking it was a 'booty' call but my friend thinks it was to check to see if I was out and with someone else. I haven't replied, I didn't really know if I should what with him saying 'maybe'. I mean what kind of answer is that.

I thought if someone wasn't interested in someone they'd avoid them after declining them. I mean I haven't really spoken to him since, other than a quick conversation afterward that was just like normal, so he's had the chance to. Is he just pushing his luck because he knows I like him? he's told me in the past he likes me too, which was the main reason why I asked him out. I've never asked a guy out before but thought he'd likely say yes as he'd told me he liked me.

I agree with you in that "Maybe" is a horrible answer. It seems like he is sending you very mixed signals so it could be a few things. You actually know him so trust your instincts on what is going on with him.

A. Congratulations on having the confidence to ask a guy out. If he does like you he may have said maybe just to give himself time to ask you out. I had a girl ask me out and although I said yes and was definitely flattered, there was a little part of me that felt a little guilty for not being the one to ask her out. If he said he liked you maybe he is just giving himself time to ask you out.

B. He just wants to be friends, unfortunately this may be primarily based on ego on his part. You obviously make him feel good with your flirty messages and he may be worried about that going away. Essentially his ego boost is going away.

C. You guys seem like you were close and he may be worried about having hurt your feelings. Sometimes you do want to avoid a girl after a rejection, but if you had a lot built up before then he may just be worried about how you feel.

In the end you know best and trust your instincts.
