How do I make him stop putting himself down?

My boyfriend always puts himself down. He grew up in a terrible home where his mother and step dad told him he was brain dead and ugly and a piece of crap. He puts himself down all the time. I hate it because he is such a good person. I always tell him he's handsome and he's not brain dead and he is most certainly not a piece of crap. How do I make him stop putting himself down?

Do little sweet stuff for him. it might take some time but at a point he will start to realize it. maybe its a good idea to not mention his problem. And when he might say " no I'm not " or any of the things you mentioned above , kiss him. tell him in your eyes he is . and its one of the many reasons why you love him

You just have to keep at it. the kind of scars he has are deep and often life long, but if they have someone around to cut any self depraving thought off as it grows, soon flowers of confidence will grow.
