How to start a conversation with a shy girl?

The first time I tried to talk to her was cringy as heck🤧 how can I get her engaged in the conversation when both of us are very shy? Are there any questions that I can ask that can get both of us talking?

How old is she? How long have you known her? In what context do you see her: is she a co-worker, a school mate, neighbor, etc?

She’s around 16 years old. We both met at school when we were both in the same class for the three school years. Even tho we were in the same class in the past, we never talked to each other. Half a year ago, I’ve finally got the courage to text her. She’s very shy and passive. And I’m very introverted and timid. I decided to talk to her in real life about a week ago. However, it was very awkward. And I noticed that she smiled when she was talking with other guys, but she seems to avoid eye contact with me and appears to be nervous around me. I want to make us more comfortable around each other. I don't know what kind of topics I can talk about with her during recess time.

Just ask her what she's into. I have a lot of interests so usually at least one of the other persons interests sounds interesting and if it doesn't then it's time to get out.

Try to express an interest in her life or her hobbies, or at least something that’s important to her

I've done this many times before. This is the fast track to getting ghosted because they don't know what to say lol but that's just me so it's completely anecdotal

That's an excellent question that I have no idea how to answer. Dating or even talking to someone you like is hard nowadays. Expectations are so damn high for everyone and it's become so much easier to just dismiss someone even if they just say one thing not to your liking. Like I feel so much empathy for anyone whos single and wants an actual relationship right now.

Make her feel comfortable being at ease with her talk about things that she might enjoy talking about
