How to approach a shy girl?

So there's a girl I have already approached once before, however she blushed and quickly ended the conversation and walked off. I could tell it was simply because she didn't expect to be approached out of the blue - even though we had made eye contact before then.

I keep wanting to go up to her again but I expect the same thing to happen. My question is, how do I approach her eg. what do I say to make her feel comfortable?

I first approached her on campus and asked if she was from my hometown because she looked familiar. This was a lie but I don't think it was unacceptable, however she obviously said no and walked off in a rush.

I want to approach her again but I need a good situation/opening line that won't make her shy.

Shy girls are easy to approach. The advantage you have is that other guys are most likely not talking to her, so if you give her attention, eventually the tides could turn. So, you said you first approached her on campus. Did you get her name? For the 2nd approach, assuming you got her name, I would call out her name as if you've known her for ages, and proceed with the simple line of 'how are you doing in this beautiful day.' Now, if this shy girl is like most shy girls, she will reply with a one liner or two like, 'is fine' or 'i'm ok'; your job is to make her keep on talking. This is nto hard at all given that you're in some campus, so I'm assuming you're both in college. Thus, you can ask anything related to college like, 'what class are you taking, what is your major, how do you like this place so far, etc.' The more relevant the question, the better. Your first goal should be to make this comfortable with your presence. Now, as you're saying bye, drop a line of, 'I'll talk to you soon again.' With that, you're letting her know that she is not getting away with being shy and that you will be around to talk to her again. So that leads to the 3rd encounter. Again you call her by name, and you ask the same question of, how are you doing in this beautiful day.' You can replace the word beautiful with whatever you want. Again, ask her simple relevant questions maybe based on the last conversation.

NOw, that just a start. You cannot just think.'i hope she is not shy today.' If she is shy, she will always be in that character, so your goal is to break those barriers by just going up to her and talking. Of course, I don't know how your talking skills are, but I can tell you that in my case, I was good at finding out the personality of the shy girl, and then teasing them a bit, makng them laugh, and eventually, their shyness with me went away. But you can't expect to do it all in one day; shy girls require some 'effort', perseverance and strategy on the attack!

Also, you mentioned how she walked off in a rush.again, if you know her name, call her name and stop her on her tracks, and calmly say, 'hey, why are you on a rush?' If anything, she will be a bit annoyed, but of course, it all depends on you how you handle the situation. My main point is that you need to be in charge at all times, and if this girls see that she can run over you, then you'll have no chance. Good luck.

parties are always good for loosening people up. However if this girl is as shy as she seems, then I don't think you will see her at one. virtually anywhere is a good place to talk to a girl with obvious exceptions (during the exam, doctors office, ect. ect.) its all about making a girl comfortable talking to you.

So normally I'd open with a push pull: "Wow a nice pair of shoes, I think my 9 year old sister has a pair just like them (first part pulls the girl in, second part pushes her back, she'll work for your validation now as long as you make it known that you are JUST KIDDING, a simple smile will suffice)." In this situation, that's not going to work. I wouldn't ask the question you just asked, about the hometown. she's shy, she's not going to get that personal with a guy who just walked up to her. Ask her if she's heard about a current event, something on campus, a writter a movie anything really, that doesn't focus on her and if you can tie it to an entertaining story that you have. Now is not the time to get deep into each other's lives, right now you're trying to make her comfortable. When she is you can ask her about herself.

If you have any good jokes, use them. making a girl laugh is a great way to establish comfort. So just keep things superficial until you sense that she is comfortable with you, then go in for the big questions.

Yep, as lifeson says, your key is to make her comfortable with your presence. And he correctly says, that line he has, won't work on shy girls; however, is his push pull line is a great way to talk to a girl cause is what I call a challenging compliment, that most likely will get the girls attention, and she will be ready to defend her 9 year old shoes. hahahah :) So indeed, do ask questions related to your college/university, classes, experience in the campus so far...not hard at all!
