Why would a guy joke about being bad in bed?

why about sex? either he is fishing for a positive/comforting reaction from you (it might be subconscious), or sex is already on his mind so that's where his brain goes to.
but maybe it's a recurring theme within his group of friends so he is just going through the pattern he is used to.
any way, i don't think there is anything you should be worried about.

i have a friend that always makes jokes about him having a small dick, when in fact his EXs opened a whatsapp group called "[his name]'s golden dick"...
