I may be overthinking this…?

I have a guy friend of several years that I know through church. He’s quite a bit older than me and I’ve been able to talk with him and seek his advice on things. Needless to say, we’re close and both single. I’ve also gotten vibes that make me think he might have feelings for me but hasn’t said anything. We normally hug when we see each other. In public he tends to keep a bit more space between us but when we’re by ourselves it tends to be closer. There’s also something he’s done before that I’ve noticed more of recently. I’m a lot shorter and when he bends down, he presses his cheek to mine. I’m almost certain it’s intentional. It used to be an occasional thing, but it’s been happening every time we hug for the past month. I just want to figure out what’s going on so I can try and figure out how to approach things.

I know it’s not exactly one on one, but I invited him to my birthday party this weekend at a cocktail lounge. I’m hoping a couple drinks might loosen him up a little. One time we were at a party (not together) and he came over to where I was sitting with some friends and he had his hand resting on my back the entire time he was with us. That’s when I seriously started thinking he was into me.

Another thing, me making a direct move would not go over well with him. He’s a bit of an alpha type. Besides touch, we banter and tease each other’s a lot. Any major escalation has to come from him though.

Yes, but for various reasons never considered him as an option for dating. I’m mostly just want to figure out if he likes me as more than a friend and go from there. He’s sent mixed signals over the years and it’s very confusing sometimes.

I’m actually not all that interested in a romantic relationship. If it happens, that’s fine. However, it’s not my primary goal.
