Here's what you do!

Pick a class you are both in, AND one that has a personable and approachable teacher taking that class.

Stick your hand up and ask why isn't learning how to speak freely with the opposite sex isn't part of the school curriculum, because there is a girl you adore from afar but are way too scared to initiate a conversation with her.
Then glance over at her..
I guarantee you, if she feels the same about you? you'll have done 50% of the ground work in getting a date with her.
At very least you will have started a trend that will make it easier for everyone in that class in future.

Just be confident and be yourself, be comfortable and happy as a person. Be original, true, honest and straightforward and don't go for show offs.

Don't go out of your way to try and get a woman's attention, if you do so you are likely to fail more often than not.
