"Friendly date" and "friendly flirt", what happened there?

One woman I met at my university and I went out with, told me we are on a date.
After few times I wanted to initiate more dates, she asked: "We are friends, right?".
I was like wtf. "You told me we are one a date then". And she replied: "Yeah, a friendly date". Another woman gave me mixed signals, and was jumping between yes and no with me until she started flirting heavily andSexually with me and then backing off. I thought it was push pull, but I figured out it wasn't, and I asked her what's going on. She replied that she is sorry, she wasn't thinking much and it was just a friendly flirt. Am I the problem or them? Is it a friendzone situation or they wanted me at first and figured out suddenly they don't? Am I not reading the situations right? Is it just me or those friendly date and friendly flirt are weird?

I have no idea people need to be clear with you. I guess you could go on more friendly dates and see if something more comes out of it or not. You can ask her... Do you want to go on anymore friendly dates?

But yea I don't think sometimes people realize they are sending mixed signals I think people are trying to figure out how they feel themselves or get nervous or decide... maybe this isn't the one for me. Etc.
