Only really old men hit on me?

I’m 31 and I only get hit on by really old men when I’m out and about and online. These men are like 50 plus. Why is this? It is so rare for s man my age to show interest.

Earlier today I was at the gym and I saw this one woman there, must've been late 20s to early 30s. We'd catch eyes from time-to-time, mostly because I look around all the bloody time so I notice everyone. Anyways, whenever she'd pass me, she'd never make any effort to look at me. However, one time when she went by, I noticed her check me out in the mirror after she'd walked by, trying to sneakily get a look in. She'd also get a couple more looks in when I was working out. I never bothered approaching her because she never gave any overt indication she was interested and she never gave me the opportunity as she moved around the gym. If she had, say, looked at me and smiled while she walked by me the several times she did, then maybe I would've.

I think what's lost on women nowadays is that they expect guys to just approach them without any sort of effort on their part. Like they're entitled to our attention. That's not how it works nowadays, especially given how women bitch about getting "unwanted attention" from "creeps". You've got to put in the effort to signal that you want to be approached and give the guy the opportunity to do so. Otherwise, there's no incentive; only the possibility of being one of those guys women complain about on twitter for "bothering them" when they're running errands or at the gym.

So if guys your age aren't "hitting on you", then it's probably something you're not doing. You're not sending any consistent signals and you're not appearing approachable. But as has been said about your sexual market value as a 31 year-old women, maybe you're just not as appealing to your target audience. For instance, as someone who's several years older than you, I'd be more interested in a woman who's in her mid-20s then her early 30s. Maybe guys your age have this similar mindset. Older guys who are 40+ who want to date younger typically will go for women in the 30s or late 20s at the youngest. That's what you're experiencing.

Like many have said here, men like younger women. But not because they look younger (some men do, to be honest) but because younger women are less intimidating. Same age women tend not to look up to their man and yeah, sadly, men like that. It's kinda in our nature. But don't lose hope, I've for example even dated older and same age women. We are out there ;-)

They would not know my age unless they asked… some people think I’m 16. I don’t wear makeup and my eyebrows are not arched.

Same for me and I really wish I knew why! I can't help sorry. But you're certainly not alone. When I was a teen I ended up with more men in their 30s and 40s than boys my own age. I'm now 28 and although I do get plenty of interest from men a similar age I still get approached a lot by men 50-80. I honestly don't know why.

It could be a baby face thing. Like you I could pass for 16 still.

It’s probably about the differences in their upbringings.

Those 50 years old were in their teens/early 20s chatting women up in the 80s. There was no internet, no mobile phones, they didn’t have online dating apps, they had to go up to women face to face. They also weren’t bombarded with feminist messaging that told them that approaching women is creepy or predatory, it was completely normal back then.

Men in their early 30s have grown up talking to girls online since our teens, texting on mobile phones, being told that we’re creeps. Stunted social skills, big fear of getting rejected, no idea how to approach a girl IRL and besides they see it as weird now because so many women complain about it.

Guess you don't dress like a street whore & you don't act like one so most of the young guys who only want sex ignore you. They have a lot of whorish women to choose from. maybe you dress more in an older style too.

As a man I can say that I like to flirt or hit on younger woman because not only do I like them but it makes me feel good that possibly I’m still attractive as an older man but also because of the energy of a younger woman. Do you as a woman feel creeped out by this? I always wondered what the younger woman feels? Plus younger women to an older male is very attractive! The youthfulness the energy add to the sex appeal

In addition to what others have mentioned, and what @MrOracle said is the best explanation, men my age had to hit on women when we were in our 20s rather than using dating apps or sliding into a woman's DMs, so it's easy for us to do.
