Would he perceive this as me being interested in him?

Met a guy & felt like his was interested in me because I would see him staring at me & he mentioned that he saw me the day before. The following day after I officially met him I sent him a message saying it was nice meeting him & I hope to see him around.

I didn’t want to be too straightforward because of the environment we met in, but I did want to send something indications my interest.

Would he perceive this as me being interested in him?
