Is he teasing me to flirt or just bored?

there's this guy I work with (I kinda like him but I’m shy. He’s a little older than me by the way). Whenever we cross paths, or if he comes into the area I’m working in and I have my back turned to him he almost always will say “hey Kate!”. If it’s not that he will say my name in a funny way, like a teasing tone. Sometimes high pitched and sometimes drags my name out when he does this. He always initiates conversations when we talk, never me cause I’m shy and don’t wanna act like a moron. Is this just him being bored and passing him or is he being flirty? I don’t wanna read too much into it if it’s not.

I think he is trying to gauge your comfort level as he is an older guy. He does not want to startle you but he wants you to know he is interested. He can not do much more than he has done so you have to make it clear, using nonverbal, that you are interested. If you are not interested then continue as things are. Hope this works out as you hope for.
