A smile without talking?

There's a guy who works at a store I go to. I think he likes me. I noticed him looking at me sometimes and I looked back at him because I like him too. Today I went there and when he saw me he immediately said “hi” as if he was happy to see me, I just gave him a big smile without talking and looked down because I was shy and surprised. For guys if a girl did that what would you think in your mind?

he was welcoming you, not a personal thing but a customer thing, greet the customers. if a girl did that looked down i would think she did not like me.
