Should men be initiators?

I’m a relatively shy college guy. Every now and then, I’ll have a lovely convo with a girl (e. g., walking together after class). However, it never seems to get past that point. Do I need to bring more to these encounters? In other words, should men be the initiators?

Usually that is the expectation. The girl drops a hint, the guy picks up on it and "initiates". But also sometimes the guy initiates without the preliminary hint and has to wait for signs of reciprocation.

No. Men should not be the initiators. Women shouldn't be considered "the prize" because once you get with a girl you're expected to do everything for her because you're a man. Hold the door, pull out her seat for her, pay, take her home. What does she do for the man? Just simply give him her time? Sorry but that's what privileged people do. Women should be the ones initiating if they want to continue to be treated with privilege for doing nothing but existing.

I think yes, at least after the girl drops you some signs and hints that she is interested, you need to do something about it
