I have done. But definitely it's rare. I usually need a really good opening. So for example if the guy writes something asking a question and it's really interesting to me. Like in dating, on a profile, it could be a philosophical question and as I am doing philosophy as a degree it gives me a good reason to reach out and say hi, I'm studying this and am really interested. Lol.

It could also just be a really funny question. Not anything serious. But at least I know if the guy isn't interested in me we can still have an interesting conversation.

Whereas otherwise... I'm gonna wait for the guy. I know it seems unfair! But I want to know a guy I like likes me back! So if I put a sign out (such as swiping right on his profile) the next move is his!

@spartan55 haha well. I don't know if it's true or not. But I've heard guys swipe right on nearly every female without reading profile etc. Cos they have a smaller % who swipe back and match. So they swipe a lot. Like casting a net for fish. Then when they get a few bites, they will screen the results and see if any of "their catch" is interesting and attractive.
For us females... we are more like out hunting a lion. We don't shoot at the rhinos and elephants. We look, and wait and make sure we see potential in someone before we swipe right. Therefore if we matched its not on a whim. Its a big "I think you are attractive and there could be potential. Let's chat" neon sign! I don't swipe on just anyone. So yes. If a woman swiped on you that's a big deal! And you can be confident to reach out! Of course. If your not quick enough she might find another lion has caught her eye 😉

I get that, but then how much effort do you invest in messaging etc. Personally I do very little online dating because I think it's a very flawed way to form any sort of romantic relationship. It becomes more front and center as an option for our demo because of the limited dating market. But I will never understand why anyone age 18-30 would even bother with online dating. At that age you should be in your social and physical prime. Options and opportunities should be plentiful.

You are right there are some guys who only swipe right, but not all. It truly is a numbers game for 80% of guys.

@spartan55 oh I agree. People in their 20's should find it easier to find a partner. Bigger and better social networks. More freedom if no kids yet. Maybe more attractive (fitter, younger etc). I've seen a number of posts on here tho that suggests it's still really hard. Men and women both confused about reading signals and making first moves. I personally like dating sites. I like being able to "decide" who to put my energy into. And the limited information is more than you get meeting a stranger out and about. I've been chatted up in a bar and I get cold feet because I know nothing about the person.
Dating sites do become very physical/attraction based tho. My recent ex, he doesn't look that great in pictures. But as I was looking for relationship qualities I was not just going on attraction. But being with him I fell more and more in love with his looks. So again, in an ideal world we would meet people through Friendships and develop attraction based on a combination of factors not just looks. But alas its almost like the world is too big now, with the Internet. There's too many choices and everybody is in a rush!

@spartan55 I think for us women there is an illusion of more choice. Yes maybe, there are more guys saying they want to date us. But so many are liars or cheats or looking for hook ups. Our actual choice - of a decent guy looking for love - is probably slimmer than yours!
